I hope you enjoyed season 10 of The Deep. Just a quick note to let you know that seasons will now be 8 episodes long. But not to worry, I'm reposting some of my absolute favourite episodes, like this one, so you'll never be short of something to listen to.
We continue talking to Sandra Pankhurst but now we move into her current work as a trauma cleaner.
What is that?
Its the work no one wants to do, 3 week old decaying body- call the trauma cleaner, double suicide- call the trauma cleaner, meth lab explosion- call the trauma cleaner, 45 years worth of hoarding you call Sandra.
Sandra works within the worst conditions but brings the most dignity to her clients. She takes us through some of her toughest jobs and shares what its like doing the job no one else knew existed and how to do it with heart.
Content warning: This episode contains a graphic description of self harm and suicide. You may chose to skip this section (5.04-6.54). If this episode triggers you please contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.

Sandra is like a cat that has nine lives. There are so many chapters of this story we had to share it over two episodes.
Sandra grew up as Peter and through his life he was many things: He became a father, a husband, a woman, a drag artist, a prostitute, a drug addict, a law abiding citizen, a married woman, one of Melbourne's high society, a business owner, a widow and a trauma cleaner.
As you can imagine this is a hell of a ride. It is a story that has a lot of explicit and adult content.
It is almost unbelievable that one person can fit so much into one lifetime but she did and it's fascinating.
Content warning: this episode deals with prostitution, drugs and abuse. If you are suffering or are triggered by the themes of this podcast, help services are available.

Turia Pitt is now a motivational speaker, podcaster, mother, she has done a TED talk, and in 2011 Turia was caught in a bushfire while running an ultra marathon. 65 % of her body was burnt. I wanted to talk to her about that moment, that day, and the moments after. I've always been completely fascinated by someone that has come that close to death and survived.

Today we hear from Olivia from MAFS. We spoke to Dom and it's only reasonable to hear from Liv too, not because of "she said, she said" but because it's fascinating that people go on reality TV shows knowing there are heroes and villains and you could become either one. Liv is the villain and this is what happens; the country hates you, there's a pile on, death threats, you lose your career, your partner etc. But underneath this is a human being. We've all made mistakes so if you have a preconceived idea please leave it at the door.

You may have heard of the TV show MAFS (Married At First Sight). Last season we got to see the toxicity and the craziness of the show unravel. Two people in the middle of the drama were Dom and Olivia. I was so invested in their relationship and their dynamic and also with Dom being slut shamed on TV. I wanted to explore why you would go on a show like this, what it's like becoming an overnight celeb and how you deal with it all.
Note this is not a normal Deep episode. It's more of a conversation than an interview.
This is just part 1 of the conversation. There will be so much more juicy exclusive stuff coming from Dom in part 2 on The Deeper including if she's open to mediation with Olivia.
