What do President Obama and American Idol winner Kris Allen have in common? And what do their unexpected successes have in common? And what does this say about our society and the progress we are showing? I'll give my answer on this week's episode. It's the first half of the finale for Season 8 of American Idol, pitting Adam and Kris against each other. As usual, Tom and I discuss the performances, our predictions for who we think will win, and we give a final critique of Season 8 in general with our "Good, Bad, and Ugly" nominations.

Update on the job search and my quest to get back into the workforce. From Senator Arlen Specter to Virginia Foxx to the fact that a President Obama--and not a President McCain--will replace retiring U.S. Supreme Court Justice David Souter, it is not easy to be a Republican lately. The schism I predicted is happening sooner than I thought, and in a completely different way. This will be interesting to watch. Podcaster Quote of the Week: The Lost Segment. Update on the job search and my quest to get back into the workforce. The Nevada State Senate has passed a domestic partnership bill by a 12-9 margin--two shy of being veto-proof. The bill is expected to do well in the Assembly (not sure if it will pass), but Governor Jim Gibbons (R) has promised a veto, saying "I just don't believe in it." A quick check of his own biography reveals that his own experience with his opposite-sex marriage is not the shining example held up by his fellow conservatives, so it begs the question of exactly what model of marriage does he believe in? Listen in for my response.
