  • Is 15 Too Young To Be Sailing?

Duncan and Nik take a swipe at Kiss's attempted Magnum Opus, Music From The Elder, and they go straight down a rabbit hole of cocaine and poor choices.

Picture this, you're Gene Simmons in 1981 and KISS looks like they're falling into obscurity after only 5 short years at the top. So, they choose to do what any worried rock star would do, they give themselves over to a wizened mentor.

    Enter Bob Ezrin.

    And The Elder are born.

  • Born Again? They Got It Right The First..and Second Times!!!

Years ago, while at my friend's house, I saw his cassette copy of Black Sabbath Born Again and even though I considered myself quite the fan of Black Sabbath, I'd never heard of or anything off of this record, or so I thought. Zero The Hero was on a death metal Black Sabbath Tribute by Cannibal Corpse.

But that was as close as I ever got to this album.

Today, we go in deep on this album, the events surrounding the tour, the recording, the aftermath, and this beautiful record. A Goodly amount of time is spent giggling and talking about Spinal Tap.

You'll have to listen to find out why Born Again might just be the most important record of all time!

In the days of his youth, Kevin told Randy what it means to be a man.

Did you know that about 18 months before you ever heard The Blizzard of Ozzy, Randy Rhoads was releasing his second LP with the, later, Hair Metal band, Quiet Riot?

Join your hosts Nik and Duncan as they look back at those heady days before Quiet Riot had found their way.

  • Should We Stop Speaking of the Devil?

Today we take a trip down memory lane and listen to Ozzy Osbourne's "Speak of the Devil" which was released in November 1982.

It fits into our world because this album features members of Black Sabbath, Quiet Riot, Night Ranger, and Black Oak Arkansas coming together to regroove a set of Black Sabbath classics.

Listen in and you can find out if this is something you should remember or forget.

  • Will Judas Sabbath Betray Our Lord?

In our first full episode, Duncan and I jump right into a wholly forgotten moment in the world of Heavy Metal and Hard Rock.

In late 1992 while Black Sabbath was touring behind their latest LP, Dehumanizer, they were offered a chance to open for Ozzy Osbourne on his No More Tours Tour, aka the first farewell tour.

The God, Ronnie James Dio, said he'd never open for a clown. So when there's a war in heaven, what else could be done? Tony and Geez called in another god to sort it all out. The Mercurial Rob Halford, late of Judas Priest, filled in for Dio for two shows.

Join us as we listen in and talk about what it was, what it wasn't, and what it could have been.

About The Department of Metal Antiquities

From the publisher's feed

As a musical genre, heavy metal (and all it's sub-genres) has only existed for 50 years, but in that time there have been a great many happenings that we have collectively forgotten.
