The Church’s Destiny: A Call to Mission
In Revelation 19:6–9 and 22:17, the Apostle John paints a breathtaking picture of the church's eternal destiny — a redeemed community from every nation, tribe, and tongue, gathered to worship the triune God. These passages not only reveal the ultimate purpose of the church but also provide a clear call to action for believers today.
The Church's mission is rooted in its destiny. As Revelation 19 describes, the Church, referred to as the bride of Christ, is joined to the Lamb in an eternal union of joy and worship. This future reality should shape how we live and serve now.
A Multitude Gathered in Worship
Revelation 19:6 describes "a great multitude" praising God. This vision is a fulfillment of promises found throughout Scripture, such as Psalm 67:4–5 and Matthew 24:14, where God’s desire to draw all nations to Himself is clear. The Church exists to glorify God by bringing the nations to worship Him. Missions, therefore, are not an end but a means to eternal worship.
The Bride’s Preparation
The Church, as the bride of Christ, is being prepared for her wedding day. Revelation 19:8 says she will be dressed in fine linen, representing the righteous deeds of the saints. As 1 John 2:28 reminds us, we must remain faithful, living in a way that honors Christ, knowing He is at work in us to present us as pure and holy.
The Call to “Come”
In Revelation 22:17, the Spirit and the bride issue a dual invitation: “Come.” This call has two dimensions. First, it is an upward call: “Come, Lord Jesus.” We eagerly anticipate Christ's return and the fullness of His kingdom. Second, it is an outward call: “Come to Jesus.” The Church must echo this invitation, sharing the Gospel with those who have not yet heard.
Action Steps
The Church’s destiny is glorious, and its mission is urgent. As part of the bride of Christ, let us not grow weary but live in anticipation of that great day, inviting others to join in the eternal worship of the Lamb who is worthy.
