Stranger Things 5 is coming — but can Netflix stick the landing after years of delays? We break down the final season hype, Superman 2’s Brainiac tease (with Lex Luthor rumors), and what James Gunn’s DCU is building toward with Batman: Brave and the Bold.

Then, Star Wars shifts gears with The Mandalorian & Grogu movie hitting theaters in 2026 — is this the right move instead of finishing Mando season 4? Jess is back — and her car (the clunker) is already causing chaos. We kick off this episode with the breakdown story, then dive into fantasy football drama, Taco Bell nostalgia, emo/metal music rants, thrift store finds, and more. Oh, and we get serious about why celebrating political violence (like the Charlie Kirk shooting) is a dangerous road for all of us.

Taps and Takes is BACK at the pub — and this week, we’re ranting, raving, and roasting everything from Marvel Tokon’s beta to NFL Week 1 chaos. 🍻

First up, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls — Drew breaks down the closed beta, the busted auto-combos, the Kamala Khan problem, the clunky tag system, and those way-too-tight input windows. It’s the next big fighting game… but only if ArcSys and PlayStation Studios get it right.

Then nerd news takes over: Arcane wins big at the Creative Arts Emmys, Alien Romulus cements Alien as the comeback franchise, Constantine 2 rumors heat up, and that new Street Fighter movie casting that feels straight-to-DVD. Plus anime love — Attack on Titan, Evangelion, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners — and why Arcane might already be the GOAT.

NFL fans, don’t worry — we’ve got you: Week 1 was WILD. Cowboys almost upset the Eagles, Chargers stun the champs in Brazil, Packers look scary good, 49ers survive injuries, Bills pull off a miracle vs. Ravens, Aaron Rodgers cooks in a revenge game, and (of course) the Bears found a fresh new way to break hearts. 🏈

Also: gumbo cook-offs, the infamous Testicle Festival (yes, it’s real), and why Vin Diesel is back with Witch Hunter 2 (for reasons no one asked).

It’s nerdy, it’s funny, it’s chaos — it’s Taps and Takes.

Well it finally happened. Jess Said Naurrrr and left the podcast for the rest of eternity. And even though this leaves a huge Jess size hole in the hearts of the Do-Over Crew....we make do by getting a famous person in studio. No Longer is her name Little Lauren, oh no. She is now "Mega Famous Lauren". This is of course in reference to her work on a new huge animation project called Knights of Guinevere that we try to grill her about and see if we can get her to break NDA. And Darren also comes in to join the festivities and do our normal tom-foolery with Elliott and Drew. This was a fun episode with many funny moments....ENJOY!

P.S.

Jess will be back next week!

****Disclaimer: Drew, Elliott, Eddie, Royce, and all the lovely folks that are associated with Taps and Takes and the Do-Over Podcast DO-NOT condone Gambling/Sports Betting in the state of California. ESPECIALLY people with addiction problems and others that may not be able to gamble legally******

With that lengthy disclaimer above to cover our legal tracks, Drew and Elliott do a special one off Taps and Takes and go over what they would bet on this weeks NFL games if they were to gamble....which they don't. Not only that, but we get in to all the awesome nerd news that has dropped this week including the amazing trailer for Marvel Zombies and some prognostication with Alien Earth. We definitely miss Grogg's Traditional Irish Pub, and can't wait to get back there next week. This one is for you ROYCE!!!!

Our Own Barbress Jess Hosts this week while Elliott is on vacation, so naturally she invites Colleen in from Classy, Sassy & Shade to gang up on Drew unfairly. We talk about our weeks and do our normal do over things and discuss a wide range of topics like How Jess said that all men cheat (Insert eyeroll here). Please help Drew fight the unfair estrogen advantage in the room as he fights for his life....and sanity!!! It was fun, we hope you enjoy!
