When a person dies, there are casseroles, flowers, cards, time off work. When a dog dies, most people get a couple hours and an expectation to be fine by Monday.
Em talks with Anne Marie, author of Healing Wisdom for Pet Loss, about why grief for a pet is so rarely validated the way grief for a person is, the different types of grief that show up after losing an animal, and real ways to honor that loss without a timeline or pressure to move on.
You'll hear:
Press play if you've ever grieved a pet and felt like you had to hide how much it actually hurt.

You've been doing the "right" things, structure, consistency, following the advice everyone gives, and your dog still seems stuck. Maybe it's not you. Maybe it's the advice.
A lot of popular dog training advice sounds solid on the surface: be the alpha, ignore bad behavior, never let them win, don't comfort a scared dog. But some of the most common tips out there are quietly making things harder, not easier, for well-meaning dog parents just trying to do right by their dog.
In this episode, Em breaks down ten of the most common training myths she sees holding people back, drawn from her own journey with Fitz and Toby. From the "just ignore it" advice that broke a dog's trust, to why letting your dog win a tug-of-war doesn't lose you anything at all.
You'll hear:
Press play if you've tried all the "right" things and still feel stuck, and you're ready to find out it might not be you at all.

Have you ever felt like your dog has endless energy no matter how much exercise you give them?
Many dog parents assume that longer walks, more fetch, and extra physical activity are the answer to a restless, anxious dog. But what if the missing piece isn't more exercise at all? What if your dog is craving mental stimulation, enrichment, and opportunities to problem solve?
In this episode, I sit down with Aina, founder of Pawzler, to talk about why enrichment matters, how puzzle toys support dog behavior, and why just a few minutes of the right brain game can leave your dog more fulfilled than an hour of nonstop activity. We dive into dog enrichment, mental stimulation for dogs, anxiety, destructive chewing, confidence building, and how to create a calmer, happier dog through smarter play.
In This Episode, You'll Hear:
If your dog struggles to settle, seems constantly overstimulated, or comes home from walks even more wound up than before, this conversation will give you practical ideas you can start using right away.
Listen now for an insightful conversation about dog enrichment, dog behavior, mental stimulation for dogs, dog anxiety, stress relief, enrichment games for dogs, dog training, emotional wellbeing, and helping your dog thrive through play and curiosity. 💛🐾

Have you ever felt like your life is on hold because your dog isn't where you want them to be yet?
Many reactive dog parents spend years waiting. Waiting for training to work. Waiting for behavior to improve. Waiting for life to feel easier before they allow themselves to dream bigger. But what if waiting for perfect is the very thing keeping you stuck?
In this personal solo episode, I share the mindset shift that changed everything for me, Fitz, and our future. We talk about reactive dogs, trust, emotional resilience, partnership, and why building a life around your dog's needs doesn't mean putting your own dreams on hold. Sometimes the next step forward isn't waiting until everything is fixed—it's learning how to move forward together.
In This Episode, You'll Hear:
If you've ever felt discouraged, overwhelmed, unsupported, or like life can't begin until your dog reaches some imaginary finish line, this episode is your reminder that you don't have to earn joy first.
Listen now for an honest conversation about reactive dog life, trust building, emotional resilience, self trust, partnership, relationship with your dog, personal growth, finding purpose, and creating a meaningful life alongside the dog you have. 💛🐾
Do you actually know what's in your dog's food?
I found out the hard way, after months of thinking my dog was just a picky eater, that he was actually allergic to storage mites. The label didn't tell me that in plain language, and I had years of vet med behind me and still had to dig for it.
That's why I built The Dog Food Bag Decoder: the scientific names on the bag, translated into plain language, paired with Holistic Pet Hub, the tool that lets you build a profile for your dog or cat and scan real food labels to see if they're actually a match, free to try. So you're not googling ingredients at midnight; you're checking them against your own pet.

Have you ever wondered what would happen to your dog if the law treated them like property instead of family?
Most of us see our dogs as companions, partners, and members of the family. But in many courtrooms, pets are still legally classified as property. That distinction affects everything from pet custody disputes to shelter policies, animal welfare laws, and the future of animal rights.
In this powerful conversation, I sit down with Susanna Gartner, founder of Canada's first animal law firm, mediator, activist, and author of A Voice for Animals. Together, we explore the legal realities facing companion animals, the shelter crisis, animal advocacy, and the growing movement to create a more compassionate future for dogs and other animals.
In This Episode, You'll Hear:
If you've ever felt heartbroken by shelter overcrowding, wondered about animal rights, considered adopting a rescue dog, or wanted to better understand the relationship between humans and animals, this episode offers both insight and hope.
Listen now for an eye-opening conversation about animal law, rescue dog advocacy, pet companionship, compassion, community involvement, emotional connection, human animal bond, dog companionship, and creating a future where animals are treated with the dignity they deserve. 🐾🩵

Have you ever felt guilty for skipping a walk with your dog?
Dog parents hear it all the time: a tired dog is a good dog. More walks. More exercise. More exposure. But what happens when you're doing all of those things and your dog is still overwhelmed, reactive, anxious, or unable to settle?
In this solo episode, I share one of the biggest lessons Fitz taught me. For years, I believed that more walks would solve his reactivity and help him calm down. Instead, every walk seemed to leave him more stressed, more overstimulated, and less able to relax. It wasn't until I stopped pushing him and started paying attention to what he actually needed that everything began to change.
We talk about dog reactivity, overstimulation, emotional regulation, enrichment for dogs, stress in dogs, dog behavior, and why sometimes doing less is exactly what your dog needs.
In This Episode, You'll Hear:
If you've ever felt discouraged because dog training isn't working the way you've been told it should, this episode is a reminder that your dog is an individual—not a checklist. Sometimes the most compassionate thing you can do is stop forcing what isn't working and start listening to the dog in front of you.
Listen now for an honest conversation about reactive dog behavior, dog anxiety, enrichment for dogs, emotional regulation, stress management, relationship with your dog, positive dog training, dog behavior challenges, and learning to trust yourself when your dog needs something different. 🐾💜

She spent five years in prison. For the first 30 days of the dog training program there, she wasn't allowed to have a dog at all, just a leash, walking alongside handlers who did.

The podcast looks polished. The clips are captioned, the stories are tight. It's easy to think there's a version of this that has it all figured out.

Here's the description, built around the general concept rather than centering the guest's specific story:
Dogs communicate constantly. Most of it just gets missed.
In this episode, Em talks with Melissa about her experience teaching her dog to communicate using talking buttons, what actually surprised her about what her dog chose to say, and what it reveals about how much dogs already understand and are trying to express, whether or not they ever touch a button.

There's a label people reach for constantly: too much, a lot, reactive, difficult. It feels accurate in the moment. It's usually incomplete.
Em shares the exact moment she realized Fitz wasn't being difficult, he was in distress, and she'd been missing it for months. She walks through what changed once she stopped asking "how do I get him to stop this" and started asking "what is he trying to say," and what it actually looks like to support a dog's nervous system instead of just managing their behavior.
