Have you ever wondered how anyone keeps the peace with more than one dog—let alone four?
Because multi-dog life isn’t just “more dogs.”
It’s more energy.
More moving parts.
More emotions to hold at once.
And some days it can feel like you’re one missed nap away from total chaos.
In this episode, Em sits down with Laurel and Rob to talk about life raising four rescue dogs off the grid in the desert—no fence, no neighbors, and no room for winging it. They share how simple routines, steady structure, and everyday enrichment became the glue that keeps their home calm and connected. Not perfect. Not polished. Just intentional, honest, and built around what their dogs actually need.
Press play if you’re trying to create a little more peace in your own multi-dog home—and want reassurance that slower, simpler often works best.

Loving a bully breed can mean constantly proving something, carrying the weight of other people's fear on top of everyday dog parenting. Strangers cross the street. People make assumptions before they've even met your dog, and sometimes those assumptions have nothing to do with the dog at all.
In this episode, Em talks with Aaron about Sweet GiGi and the community he's built around bully breeds, reactive dogs, and the humans who love them. They get into building trust through sniffaris and decompression, why "bonding" works better than "training" as a mindset, and the uncomfortable double standard Aaron has lived: the same protective instinct that gets read as noble in one breed and threatening in another.

I made a decision for my dog I still haven't fully explained to anyone, ten years later.
This is part one of my own story, first shared on the tenth anniversary of losing Cajun. Before him there was Vince, my childhood golden retriever, and after him came Izzy and Fiona, two dogs I lost within years of each other. I'm walking through the decline of my first dog when I was 16, adopting Cajun for $200 at a PetSmart adoption event, the brain and spinal surgery that ended my path toward veterinary school, a divorce, and the final months of Cajun's life.

Does your dog destroy every toy the second you leave the house, and you can't tell if it's boredom, stress, or something else entirely?
You're not alone. And it's probably not "bad behavior."
In this honest and comforting episode, Em and Josh sit down with Erika to share the real story of Jax and Wyatt, two rescue dogs learning how to cope with being left alone. What started as shredded toys and chaotic goodbyes slowly became a lesson in how simple routines, daily enrichment, and small changes at home can help anxious dogs feel safer and more settled.
Together, they talk about what toy destruction can actually mean, how predictable structure builds confidence, and why progress often looks messy before it looks calm.

Have you ever thought about hiring a dog trainer… and felt nervous you’d be judged the second you walked in?
Asking for help with your dog’s behavior can feel vulnerable. You’re already tired, already second-guessing yourself, and the last thing you need is someone talking over you or making you feel like you’ve failed. But the right support shouldn’t feel intimidating. It should feel steady, safe, and collaborative.
In this episode, Em and Josh host a real-time, honest conversation between trainer Mattison and dog mom Madisyn as they walk through what a first training session actually looks like. Together, they talk about what questions matter most, what healthy communication feels like, and the quiet red flags that can tell you when a trainer isn’t the right fit—so you can trust your instincts and advocate for your dog with confidence.
Press play if you want your first step toward dog training help to feel empowering, not overwhelming.

Does your dog feel on edge all the time—pacing, barking, unable to settle—while you’re left wondering what else you can try?
Living with an anxious dog can quietly take over your days. You plan around fireworks, car rides, and even simple errands. You try training, enrichment, routines… and still feel like something’s missing. Not because you’re doing it wrong, but because some dogs need a little more support than training alone can offer.
In this conversation, Em and Josh sit down with the team from Fat Sam’s for Pets to talk honestly about CBD—what it is, what it isn’t, and where it might fit into real life with a nervous dog. Together they explore safety, realistic expectations, and how calming supplements can gently support the nervous system alongside enrichment and daily care, so both you and your dog can feel a little steadier.

Have you ever opened your home to a rescue dog while your heart was still healing from the last goodbye?
Grief doesn’t pause just because another dog needs you. Sometimes it shows up right alongside the late nights, the behavior struggles, the quiet moments on the couch, and the slow work of building trust again. Fostering can feel hopeful and heartbreaking at the same time, especially when you’re still carrying loss.
In this tender conversation, Em sits down with Joel to talk about what really happened when he chose to foster while grieving. Together they share the reality of welcoming two rescue dogs with separation anxiety, the structure and enrichment that helped everyone feel steadier, and the unexpected ways connection grew when nothing felt certain. Not perfect, not polished—just honest life with dogs.

Have you ever looked around your house and thought, I love my dogs… but I’m so tired?
When you live with multiple dogs, the days can start to feel like a constant loop of walks, enrichment, behavior needs, and making sure everyone gets enough of you. It’s beautiful and chaotic and deeply fulfilling—and sometimes completely overwhelming. The emotional load of trying to meet every need can quietly wear you down, even when you wouldn’t trade them for anything.
In this honest conversation, Em sits down with Denise, a multi-dog guardian and founder of The Doggy Den, to talk about what life really looks like behind the scenes. They share the messy middle of managing several rescue dogs at once, the boundaries and routines that brought more steadiness to their home, and the permission to care for your own nervous system too. Not doing more—just doing what’s sustainable.

Have you ever planned your entire day around whether your dog can handle being alone?
Maybe you rush errands. Cancel plans. Sit in the car longer than you meant to because the guilt hits the second you close the door. Living with a dog with separation anxiety can quietly shrink your world until everything revolves around managing their stress—and your own. It’s exhausting, lonely, and rarely talked about with honesty.
In this gentle, real conversation, Em sits down with Kendra, a nurse and devoted rescue dog mom, to share what life actually looks like behind the scenes. Together they talk about the emotional weight, the constant adjustments, and the small daily shifts that slowly created more steadiness for both Luka and Kendra. Not perfection. Not quick fixes. Just compassion, structure, and learning how to build a life that works for both ends of the leash.
Press play if you need reassurance that you’re not failing—you’re just doing the best you can with a dog who needs a little extra support.

⚠️ Trigger Warning: This episode contains graphic details and emotional discussion surrounding severe aggression, idiopathic rage syndrome, and humane euthanasia. It is not intended for children and may not be suitable for all environments. Please use headphones and care while listening.
Have you ever looked at your dog and wondered how you could love them this much… while also being afraid of what might happen next?
Severe dog aggression is one of the most isolating experiences a dog parent can go through — especially when the aggression feels sudden, unpredictable, or impossible to explain. Many people blame themselves, believing they missed something, failed in training, or didn’t love their dog well enough to “fix” it.
But some forms of aggression go deeper than behavior alone.
In this episode, Em sits down with Lana for an incredibly honest conversation about living with severe dog aggression, idiopathic rage syndrome, neurological instability, and the emotional reality of trying to keep both people and dogs safe while navigating impossible decisions.
Together, they unpack the fear, grief, hypervigilance, emotional exhaustion, and quiet heartbreak that can come when training, enrichment, structure, and love still aren’t enough to create safety.
Because sometimes the kindest decisions are also the most painful ones.
Listeners will hear:
Press play for a compassionate conversation about severe dog aggression, grief, impossible choices, and the emotional weight carried by dog parents navigating situations few people truly understand.
