Today, we woke to startling news that South Korea’s president declared martial law – an ominous portent for what Trump may try should he not get his way in a second administration. Maggie Daun joins Dom for weekly overtime to discuss South Korea and Trump’s senior leadership picks. Trump tapped Fox host Pete Hegseth to lead the DoD and Kash Patel for FBI. The two bring resumes that differ in their unsuitability for their nominations: Hegseth for sexual assault, drunken disorderly conduct, and incompetent leadership; Patel for hawking merchandise capitalizing on conspiracy theories, including through children’s books.

Guest: Phil NeeOur favorite socialist and FDR Democrat (yes you can be both!) Harvey Kaye, joins us. Harvey is Professor Emeritus of Democracy and Justice Studies at UWGB, and a great democratic thinker. With President-elect Trump in line to be inaugurated on January 20th, it’s time for Democrats to get their acts together. In Wisconsin, we now see some benefits of banding together in solidarity for democracy and labor rights. A Dane County Judge today ruled Act 10, which devastated public sector organizations, unconstitutional. For over a decade, Act 10 hamstrung unions and limited worker’s rights in this state. Now, a chance to start again.
At the bottom of the hour, we return to the matters of pardons and presidential authority. Yes, Joe Biden pardoned his son Hunter over the weekend. We look back on some of Trump’s late-term pardons of close allies such as Paul Manafort and Roger Stone.
