The Dorkiest Podcast

With Horizon: Forbidden West mere weeks away at the time of this recording, Daniel and Mike take this time to reminisce and have a long-form discussion about the game’s predecessor, Zero Dawn. We talk about the game’s very dense and fascinating backstory and lore, we discuss the game’s take on traversal and combat, and we even discuss some of the ways that we think the sequel can improve on an already really impressive modern classic.

Praise be to the All-Mother, this is our Deep Dive on Horizon: Zero Dawn

While there are game franchises out there that we love and cherish, one could argue that there is ALWAYS room for improvement. That’s what this episode is about in what is the first in a series we’re calling ‘How To “Fix” Our Favorite Franchises’. Daniel and Mike discuss with one another some of the changes we’d like to see, or some constructive criticisms made to some of our favorite game franchises to help us to love them that much more.

The end of the year is a time for reflection and we here at The Dorkiest love reminiscing about some of our favorite stuff! On this final episode of 2021, Mike and Daniel talk about some of their favorite games that they played over the past year (some of which that didn’t release in the past year). Both Zoey and Erika show up for a cut-away segment as they talk about some of the best Dorky things that they had the pleasure of consuming as well.

But that’s not all, Mike and Daniel also look forward to the future and share with one another some of their most anticipated games coming out in 2022, both big and small! It’s an episode filled with recent nostalgia and hopes for some potentially amazing new games! We hope you’ll enjoy!

For more than 10 years now, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has left a lasting impact on the gaming industry. Well, believe it or not, in all of those years, Mike actually hasn’t ever played the game! So this week, on this rendition of ‘Ask A Dork’, Mike asks resident Skyrim expert, Daniel, all about the game in an effort to learn more about it and maybe put to rest some of the reservations and lingering criticisms that he might have before he eventually plays it!

A lot of video games wouldn’t be much without the iconic villains that house them. With the final character revealed and released for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Zoey and Mike reflect on the series and this game in particular to give thanks to one of the most ambitious games in our lifetime – and quite possibly, the last of its kind. The character roster ALONE is enough to amaze any video game fanatic, but that’s not all that Smash Ultimate has to offer its fans, and that’s what Zoey and Mike talk about and discuss on this episode of The Dorkiest. Thanks so much for joining us! We hope you have a great time listening.

The original Mass Effect trilogy has been long regarded for its vast, wonderous storytelling, its fascinating and complex characters, and its player agency. Well, now that both Mike and Daniel have revisited the games via the recent Legendary Edition, this episode will be dedicated to sharing our experiences with one another and the audience. We talk about Daniel’s first experience playing parts 2 and 3 for himself, some of our favorite moments, side missions, loyalty missions, and moments, how we think the series holds up today as video games, and whether or not either of the latter two games have overtaken ME1 in Daniel’s Top 5 games of all time! Reminisce with us as we talk about all things Mass Effect on this episode of The Dorkiest!

Thank you for joining us for this edition of The Dorkiest Podcast in which we introduce a new series that we’ll be calling ‘Ask A Dork About…’ where one of the co-hosts asks another about a series that they might not be familiar with. In this case, Daniel – who is unfamiliar with the Final Fantasy series – asks Mike – a Final Fantasy super-fan – about the games, what makes them special, and where the best place to jump in might be.

In our first - of what I hope is many - edition of Deep Dive, Daniel and Mike discuss the game and interactive experience, Detroit: Become Human. We compare notes on how the weaving narrative changed for both of our playthroughs and we also debate on how the experience was from a gameplay perspective and what - if anything - could have been done differently. There are timecodes below if you wish to skip around the spoiler talk, but we hope that you enjoy this episode as much as we did putting it together!
