School is back in session for most kids in the US, so it's time to hit the books, zip up your backpacks, and grab your......controllers(?!) Yup! Much to our surprise, both Mike and Zoey sit down to discuss the ESPORTS elective class that she started taking in 8th grade this year. Zoey talks about what she still hopes to gain out of it by the end of the year and also just some of the fun games and activities that she and her class have been doing in that class so far in the first few weeks.

The dreaded gaming backlog - something that a lot of dedicated gaming fans have to contend with. Whether you're a long time collector, jumping into a new console late in the game, or simply because you live a very busy personal life, video game backlogs can stack up FAST! As much as we love video games, the unfortunate reality is that a lot of the culture surrounding its fanbase is riddled with bullying, rampant bigotry and misogyny, and an overall sense of unease when it comes to being associated with people who perpetuate this type of behavior. So while it's not an easy topic to discuss, we still felt like it's important to at least talk about it, where we think it stems from, how we personally cope with it, and what - if anything - can be done to mediate it.

We here at The Dorkiest LOVE video games - obviously. But we also love movies as well! So it should be a no-brainer that if you combine video games and movies then you should get a solid-gold winning formula, right?! Well, unfortunately, history has shown that's not always the case.

On this special episode, Mike's best dear friend and co-host of The Skinny with Mike and Adam, Adam, talks about what it was like for him growing up loving video games and then eventually fading away from it. This was an eye-opening episode to record because as the philosophy of this show is getting the perspective of gaming as an artistic medium and as an industry from people of different experience levels and different viewpoints, it was great getting to know the story of someone who left gaming behind in his teen years and has since only dabbled in it in the form of party and music games.

We love games here at The Dorkiest Podcast. But without the controllers that play them, there would be no experience. On this episode, Zoey, Erika, and Mike do our first retrospective on the controllers themselves. We were even lucky enough to have a good number of them with us to hold and pass around during the discussion too! And with the age gaps and differing levels of experience in gaming, getting the differing perspectives on this topic was a fun thing to behold!
