"The universe had other plans for me."

Alison is a content marketer, SEO strategist, speaker and author whose mission is to demystify the world of online marketing. After getting the perfect degree for content marketing (by majoring in English and Psychology), Alison started writing blog posts for a law firm, which she used to launch her business, AV Writing Services. Since then, Alison has grown her business by helping more businesses get in front of their ideal clients through content marketing. Alison's new book, Content Marketing Made Easy, is available on Amazon in both print and digital formats now. Her work has also been featured in a variety of publications, including The Huffington Post, Entrepreneur, and Forbes.

This is Alison Ver Halen's story...

I always wanted to be a writer, but was told that it wasn't a practical career. So I pursued a career in publishing instead. After the job market crashed in 2009, I found myself between jobs and my roommate's dad, an attorney, offered to give me some work. I started writing blog posts for him and then for his associate and some friends of mine. I eventually got another day job, but kept writing on the side. I quit the day job about seven and a half years ago and have been writing full time ever since. I work with businesses that need to demonstrate their expertise through content marketing. I help them to tell their story in a way that their target audience will understand and see the value in what they're offering. Telling stories comes naturally to me and.

In this episode, you will learn the following:
1.Why writers don't make any money
    2.What story are you telling?
    3.How to tell your story

"I'm a finance professional and Toastmasters President who helps women become more confident and credible through public speaking."A woman who overcame cultural barriers and self-doubt to find success in finance shares her story and tips for other women who want to enter the field. This is Urmi’s story…I'm a finance professional, and I've always been good with numbers and math. I never thought about working in finance, though, until I moved to Canada and started taking some classes. I realized that I loved finance and I was really good at it. I decided to make it my major and I haven't looked back since.I'm always looking for ways to grow and improve, so a few years ago I joined a Toastmasters club. Toastmasters has been a great way for me to overcome my fear of public speaking and become more confident. I'm now the President of my club and I'm working towards giving a Ted Talk.I believe that public speaking is important for all women, as it makes us more confident and credible. I want to be a role model for other young women, showing them that it is possible to pursue a nontraditional career path and be successful.Urmi is a Canadian finance professional who is passionate about self-growth and helping others. She volunteers with nonprofit organizations dedicated to women's empowerment and gender equality and is a member of Toastmasters International. Her mantra is - some women fear the fire; some become it   Resources:https://www.myways.ca/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZoiI0SGU0Xo9_lNjtLWtgghttps://www.linkedin.com/in/urmi-hossain/ Follow me on: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thedougthompson/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The-Doug-Thompson-Podcast-110928150634768YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCz2qwXN-yIHHUiX4Y-e5mwQTwitter: https://twitter.com/thedougthompsonLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/thedougthompson/Loved this episode?
