The medical world seems to focus on heart attack risk for men, but we girls, we’ve got our own serious issues with cardiac disease. Once we have a heart attack, we’re 150% more likely to die less than a year after it. We survive the cardiac event and then suffer an early death because we’re so demanding of ourselves. In daily life, we have different expectations than men and we start right back up taking care of everybody and everything. It’s the mental strain, especially, depression, which compromises our recovery. Ladies, get checked for coronary artery disease such as clogged arteries from high cholesterol before it’s too late. While you’re at it, get checked for high blood pressure and diabetes which trigger cardiac problems. Check your mental health, too. And, if you have a heart attack, stay close to your doctor to improve your chances of long-term survival.
