This podcast is for internationals living in the Netherlands who understand Dutch but struggle to speak it confidently. We talk about language confidence, fear of making mistakes, perfectionism, and how to start speaking Dutch more often in daily life.

2 apps. En 100x “ik begin maandag écht.”
Maar guess what?

You understand Dutch.
But speaking? That’s where you freeze.
In this episode I share something personal.
Not a language tip. Not a grammar rule.
But an identity shift.
After spending a month in New Zealand with my family, something clicked for me.
A belief I had held for years quietly disappeared.
And that matters for you too.
Because the reason you still don’t speak Dutch is often not your level.
It’s the story you tell yourself about who you are when you speak.
In this episode you’ll hear:
- Why your identity around speaking Dutch is not fixed, and how the story “I understand Dutch but don’t speak it” is something you learned, not who you are.
- Why more studying won’t help anymore, because knowledge is no longer the problem; hesitation is.
- What actually needs to shift - so you stop freezing, stop switching to English, and start speaking even when it’s not perfect.
- How an identity shift creates real movement - without forcing yourself or “just pushing through.”
If you’ve been living in the Netherlands for years, understand almost everything, and still hesitate every time you open your mouth - this episode is for you.
At the end, I’ll also tell you about the Dutch Breakthrough Week:
a focused challenge where we work on identity, mindset, perfectionism and finally speaking - instead of staying stuck in your head.
Get in here.

This one is 'Uit de oude doos'! I found this audio in my files and, even though it's an old one, the content is still very relevant for when your working in a Dutch environment.

In this episode, I share something that even surprised me: my Switch to Dutch method doesn’t only work for internationals… it works for Dutch people too!
Last week, I gave my first workshop for a group of Dutch language enthusiasts. I did an excercise with them that confirmed everything you experience when you try to speak Dutch: tension, panic, searching for words, a body that shuts down.
In this podcast, you’ll hear:
why your body freezes when you try to speak Dutch
what Dutch people feel too when they try to speak another language
how they can support you better than you think
the simple adjustments Dutch speakers can make to help you succeed
how you can start this conversation with Dutch people around you
and the moment when my entire mission “clicked”: you – teachers – Dutch people.
Send this to your favorite Dutchie so they can help you with: simpler language, slower pace, more patience…
If you want my guidance to finally speak Dutch with confidence - without switching back into English - join Dutch Speaking Mastery.
Let me know what you think of this episode. A review or like helps me reach more people like you who are ready to switch to Dutch.
Step by step, you’re getting there.

“I feel dumber in Dutch.” - If that hits home, this episode is for you.
So many of my clients feel like a different person when they speak Dutch. Less witty. Less confident. Less themselves.
But:
It’s not your fault. You’re not bad at languages. And you're definitely not less smart. But you are stuck between two versions of yourself - and that “gap” can be incredibly frustrating.
In this episode, I’ll show you:
✔️ Why high-achievers struggle more with learning Dutch
✔️ How to stop trying to be your “English self” in Dutch
✔️ A simple mindset shift that creates more freedom, less pressure - and way more progress.
Listen if you’re done avoiding conversations, switching to English too quickly, or hiding behind “I’m still learning.”
x Mariska
