Dr. Robert J. Hansen was named Chief Executive Officer of the University Professional & Continuing Education Association in September 2010. Under Hansen’s leadership, UPCEA has grown by 125% in the past six years. He established a number of initiatives targeting the association’s unique role in online leadership & management under the umbrella of the National Council for Online Leadership: the Summit for Online Leadership & Administration, the Online Leadership Roundtable for chief online learning officers, & the UPCEA Hallmarks of Excellence in Online Leadership. He also established the UPCEA Hallmarks of Excellence in Professional & Continuing Education, advancing two frameworks to provide a set of standards that reflect the ambitions, potential, & importance of units that serve adult learners.

Hansen previously served as Associate Provost for University Outreach at the University of Southern Maine, a regional public university located in Portland, Maine. Prior to that position, he spent six years at Saint Xavier University of Chicago as Assistant to the President & Secretary of the Corporation, & then as founding Executive Director of Orland Park Campus & Off-Campus Programs. Hansen also previously served as Assistant to the Governor for Education in the administration of former Illinois governor, Jim Edgar. Hansen earned a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Illinois, an M.A. in English Language & Literature from the University of Michigan, & a Ph.D. in English from the University of Notre Dame.

David is the Chief Executive Officer of The Urban Assembly. He started with the UA in 2014 as the Director of Social-Emotional Learning, where he created the Resilient Scholars Program (RSP), a unique approach to integrating SEL into curriculum and classroom practices across the UA network. RSP has grown into a national program, serving schools and districts in Los Angeles, Houston, Syracuse, and other cities. As the Senior Director of Strategy, David led the expansion of the organization into a model provider of school support, with an emphasis on innovation & equity in public education. 

In 2021, David received the Champion of Equity Award from the American Consortium for Equity in Education. David sits on the board of CASEL & is an author of The Educator’s Practical Guide to Emotional Intelligence, & a co-author of the textbook, Challenges to Integrating Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Programs in Organizations. He is a Civil Affairs Officer in the Army Reserve & holds an M.Ed in Educational Psychology from Fordham University.

Prior to joining the USNCC, Dr. Cosentino served as Chief Academic Officer (CAO) at Guild Education, an academic platform & marketplace designed to provide access & support to millions of working adult learners through partnerships with Fortune 1000 companies, & non-profit universities. As CAO, Dr. Cosentino was responsible for academic partnerships & operations, as well as student success/coaching.

Previously, Dr. Cosentino served as Chief Operating Officer of Quad Learning/American Honors, where she oversaw academic partnerships, operations, admissions, student support, & the teaching and learning center. Before that, Dr. Cosentino served as Provost & Chief Academic Officer for Strayer University, & in a number of other senior roles for 13 years. Prior to joining Strayer, Dr. Cosentino worked in education technology as well as serving several years in city government with the City of New York as the Assistant Director in the Mayor’s Office of Transportation.

He was appointed in 1994 member of the International Association of University Professors of English (IAUPE), & in 2003 corresponding fellow (FEA) of The English Association, in the UK. During the academic year 2009–2010 he was associate member of the Faculty of English at the University of Oxford, & in October 2009 was appointed visiting fellow of Corpus Christi College, Oxford.

He has held numerous relevant academic positions in Spain & internationally: as member of the boards of the European Association for American Studies (EAAS, 1993–1999), & of the Spanish Society for General & Comparative Literature (SELGYC, 1995–2006); president of the Spanish Association of Anglo-American Studies (AEDEAN, 1996–2002), & president of the European Society for the Study of English (ESSE, 2007–2013)

Prior to taking the position of President & Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Shaw served in the positions of President & Chief Operating Officer, Executive Vice President & Chief Administrative Officer & Senior Vice President of Strategic Planning & Business Development of the Company. Prior to joining Lincoln, Mr. Shaw was a partner at Stonington Partners, Inc., where he had been since 1994. As a partner at Stonington, Mr. Shaw was responsible for identifying, evaluating & acquiring companies & then assisting in the oversight of these companies through participation on the board of directors of acquired companies. 

In addition, Mr. Shaw worked closely with senior management to develop long-term strategic plans, to evaluate acquisitions & new investment opportunities, to assist with refinancing, & to execute on the final sale of the company either to the public or to another company. Mr. Shaw also served as a consultant to Merrill Lynch Capital Partners Inc., a private investment firm associated with Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc., from 1994 through 2000. Mr. Shaw holds an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business & a B.A. from Duke University. His extensive financial & business management experience provides the board a unique perspective on the issues facing companies in our industry.

He has led the association’s public policy & advocacy efforts, including the Community College National Legislative Summit & legislative and regulatory issues such as appropriations, student financial aid, tax policy, and higher education policy, since he first joined the association. He also oversaw ACCT’s membership, events & communications divisions for many years.
