Sandtimers are essential for life with a Toddler (and older children too!) For Top Tip Tuesday on Instagram Live this week I talked through how to use sandtimers:
> Setting loving boundaries - 'you can swing for ten minutes, and once the sand is finished it's time to give this other little girl a turn'.
> Ease transitions - 'in five minutes, once the sand is finished we are going to put on our shoes and jump in the car'.
> Defer wishes. 'I'm going to be five minutes preparing supper, when the sand is finished I'll come and read with you.'
It's simple to implement, respectful (as it meets your child where they are) and effective.
They support a young child's need for consistency, predictability and routine in their life.
*I still use them with my 5 & 7 year olds, so it's not too late if you are past the toddler stage, and I included lots of different examples in the Live above.
