Isaiah Hughes is a first-year medical student at Cooper Medical School of
Rowan University in Camden, NJ. Isaiah was born in Trenton, NJ and raised in Willingboro, NJ, so he is very familiar with the struggles of marginalized communities. Isaiah completed his undergraduate studies at Rowan University while majoring in Biology and minoring in Spanish. In the future, he is committed to serving underrepresented communities congruent to the ones he grew up in. As a future physician, Isaiah plans to pursue orthopedic surgery or PM&R and practice medicine in underrepresented communities.

Amonte Simmons is a first year student at Cooper Medical School of Rowan university. Amonte was raised in Paterson, NJ and his mission as a future physician is to bridge the gap between the health disparities that exits among black communities as well as serve as a leader and role model to the youth. In addition, Amonte is dedicated to increasing the representation of black physicians within the field of medicine in an effort to improve the health outcomes of underrepresented populations

Jim Barbour, with his defined background in culinary arts, began his career in the food industry as the creator of the FunniBonz line of BBQ products and founded FunniBonz LLC in 2008. Having 15 years of sales and marketing experience in th pharmaceutical, financial, music and legal document storage industries, Jim used each of these experiences to his advantage as they served as the foundation for his Company.

Over the course of the next 12 years, Jim lead the growth and development of FunniBonz LLC, and built a complex network of relationships with retail buyers and distributors which gave the FunniBonz line of products international exposure and distribution within the major retail grocery market. Jim also calimed national notoriety being featured in the Wall Street Journal, CNBC, MSNBC and the NY Times.

In 2019, Jim began his new venture as President & CEO of Barbour Specialty Foods where he has created his new line of Down To The Bone BBQ products and 7 Minute Meals which promotes gourmet meals in minutes without all the work. Baye Kemit is a committed educator who has dedicated his life towards the education of Black children. Born to John and Janice Caldwell, Baye grew up in Trenton, NJ’s Wilbur Section and attended Trenton Public Schools, K-8 (P. J. Hill and Junior High School #2). He attended and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1991. He is married to Makeda Kemit, has 6 children and 2 grandchildren.

Baye sought higher education at Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, GA. It was there that Baye groomed his affinity for African history, culture and pride, hence his name change to Baye Kemit. In addition to demonstrating an intense conviction towards reclaiming his African heritage, and acquiring knowledge within his major, Baye was also a member of CAU’s Student Government Association and a member of the Forensics Society Debate team. He graduated in 1996 with a degree in History Education, and, in 2002, Baye received his Master’s degree in Education Administration from Temple University. Through his matriculation at Clark Atlanta and Temple University, Baye was thoroughly prepared to achieve his lifelong goal: to educate African American children from an African cultural perspective.

In 2003, Baye founded The Garvey School, an independent African-centered high school and, in 2007, expanded the institution to include Egun Omode Shule (children of the ancestor’s school), which was preschool to 8 th grade. Baye and Makeda are homeschool parents. The Garvey School/Egun Omode Shule was the only fully comprehensive (K-12) African-centered school in the state of NJ. In 2010, they expanded again to include Watoto Village, a full-time daycare. Also in 2010, Egun Omode Performing Arts Collective, a children’s West African dance and drum company, was founded. In 2012, Egun Omode premiered its first of 6 productions, which have toured from New York City to Atlanta with show dates in Newark, Philadelphia, DC, and Richmond.

Baye’s family relocated to Atlanta in 2018, closing The Garvey School and dedicating his time to developing Egun Omode and his children’s respective careers. Atlanta has provided his children with the opportunity to act professionally, perform in music videos, and build a sociocultural network that Trenton could not provide.

Baye has been lauded for his professional accomplishments, none more personal than the Dorothy V. Palmer award for “Excellence in Education” named in honor of Mayor Douglass H.
Palmer’s mother. In 2015, he was awarded the “Educators Award” by the Trenton branch of the NAACP, amongst numerous other professional and community awards.

Baye is the current National Facilitator of the Council of Independent Black Institutions (CIBI) founded in 1972, a national consortium of Independent Black Institutions (IBI), manager of Egun Omode Performing Arts Collective, an educational consultant, an initiated priest of Ifa (Babalawo), and a registered farmer in the state of Georgia. His special love lies in his annual group tours to Ghana, West Africa (Sankofa Exports and Tours) and his annual HBCU college tours which he started in 1999.

Baye spends most of his spare time homeschooling, being creative with his family, maintaining his livestock, drumming, and driving his 1973 Volkswagen Beetle.

Kimme is the Executive Director of Princeton AlumniCorps; CEO and Founder of Kimme Carlos Motivational Consulting, LLC and is currently an ordination aspirant to the priesthood in the Episcopal Diocese of NJ; where she is certified as an anti-racism trainer.  Kimme is also a certified health and wellness coach with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition; a certified instructor for Mental Health First Aid and author of the published book The Window of Grace: Living in Recovery through Christian Faith.  As an advocate with lived experience, Kimme keynotes and facilitates on mental and emotional wellness, dismantling racism and the power of selfcare.
