The Epoch of Incredulity episodes

  • Episode 114 - Part 2: Two Trees

Hello again! This is the second half of episode #114, though it functions just fine as a standalone episode.

Jesse covers a handful of local stories, beginning with the overturning and rewdrawing of Boston City Council's district maps; continuing into the unethical conduct of Rachel Rollins (former DA / US Attorney for Massachusetts); onto the drunken antics of a Boston Police Lieutenant; and concluding with the train that fought back.

Joe dives into the state's food insecurity crisis, which is hitting people of color and LGBTQ+ residents hardest, and from which children are by no means exempt.

We then turn it over to Scott, who describes the uncomfortable (and radicalizing) experience of fighting for labor rights as a member of a burgeoning union.

Thanks for listening. Please check out our patreon (https://patreon.com/epicincredulity) and, of course, enjoy your epoch.

  • Episode 114 - Part 1: They Fucked It.
Hello, hello! Welcome back to the Boston commune. This episode is packed, so we've again had to split it. In this half, Joe brings a platter of national and international stories to the table.
Topics covered include: The debt ceiling, and how all solutions to this manufactured crisis only crush the poor under an even heavier boot; the government's new self-imposed hurdles to student loan forgiveness; sneaky favors to Joe Manchin; the dying breaths of environmental regulations (and why this might conflict with Brett Kavanaugh's self-interest); Ron DeSantis' terrible campaign launch; Elon Musk's _other_ terrible launch; Sinn Fein's rise to power in the British colony of Northern Ireland; and roving gangs of killer whales, reclaiming the ocean for all sentient sea creatures.

  • Episode 113 - Cringe, Slack-Jawed Yokels

Sorry for the late Epoch, everyone, it's been a busy one! Of course, all we missed was just another blood-soaked paranoia day of death in America. From the subways of New York to the streets of Texas, violence reigns. Plus, the debt ceiling, and now they're putting olive oil in coffee? It's a wild one out there. We move on to some more positive things as Jesse discusses the benefits of safe injections sites, and Scott talks about the Writer's Strike. There is a second part of this episode coming exclusivity to Patreon in which Joe gives a full historical view of the Russo-Ukrainian War. Watch out for that, very soon!

  • Episode 112 - Trapo Chap House

It's a nice, sleek, new Epoch. We bring some good and some bad news this week. First we open with more information on the shooting of Climate Activist Manuel “Tortuguita” Terán, then we discuss the basedness of Chile nationalizing their lithium reserves, while also covering the further foibles of

Juan Guaidó. Of course, there is more corruption in the Supreme Court, but they also ruled against Big Oil in a major decision. Weird. Twitter has become a mess and NPR has been run off the platform. Tucker Carlson and Don Lemon -- Who Scott unironically kept calling Dom -- were fired from their former corporate news apparatus on the same day. We end with some White Nationalists going to jail, and though we believe in prison abolition, at least that's some good news. About The Epoch of Incredulity

From the publisher's feed

Here in the Boston Commune, we interpret the tumultuous churn of modernity through a Marxist lens. Episodes alternate between analyses of current events -- from the hyperlocal to the international -- and narrations of theoretical texts by communists and anti-imperialists the world over. This project was birthed in a mental health working group during the pandemic and continues in true DIY fashion, without any advertisements or monetization (save for a few generous patrons). Hard to believe, we know; for it is, after all, the Epoch of Incredulity.
