Ashes To Films Festival: https://www.ashestofilms.org/

In this powerful and deeply honest episode of the EVR FWD Podcast, hosts Mair Mulroney and Tyler Tackett sit down with actor, filmmaker, and scene-stealing creative Evan Sloan for an inspirational conversation about resilience, rejection, and rewriting the narrative when things don’t go as planned.

Mair first met Evan while filming her second major commercial in Los Angeles for Purina Puppy Chow—a project that, despite everyone’s best efforts, never aired. That experience becomes the perfect entry point for a recurring theme of this episode: how often incredible work in Hollywood never sees the light of day, and how creatives learn to keep moving forward anyway.

Evan and Tyler instantly bond over their shared love of WWE, reminiscing about being shy kids glued to wrestling matches in their bedrooms, playing with action figures, and unknowingly discovering their first passion for storytelling. Evan opens up about growing up in New Jersey, realizing that his sense of humor was his superpower, and how that once-shy kid became an undeniable scene stealer both on screen and off.

With refreshing vulnerability, Evan dives into the real highs and lows of the entertainment industry—from creating and starring in the hit web series “Killer Bae” alongside creative partner Juhahn Jones, to booking what felt like a breakthrough role in Atlas opposite Jennifer Lopez, only to learn his scenes were cut from the final theatrical release. In a moment every actor needs to hear, Evan shares how the director personally reached out to praise his performance and explain that sometimes stories simply change in the edit—proof that rejection isn’t always a reflection of talent.

The conversation also highlights Evan’s upcoming projects and the Ashes to Films Festival, founded by Shiloh Strong, which supports filmmakers who lost homes or were impacted by last year’s catastrophic wildfires. Equal parts inspiring, funny, and painfully real, this episode feels like hanging out with close friends who understand the grind—and remind you why the journey is still worth it.

If you love behind-the-scenes Hollywood stories, unfiltered conversations about the entertainment industry, and feeling inspired to keep going even when the outcome isn’t what you hoped for, this episode is for you.

Have you seen this new trend of vertical soap operas? Mair has LOL she stars as the villain in many of them, whether she likes it or not. Speaking of "vertical", ever wondered what it's like being thrown through a wall?? Lucky for you, Tyler can tell you EXACTLY how that feels. Tyler and Mair CRY over Tylers latest writing gig that popped up when he needed it most. THIS is the reality of two people working and making it before they're really "made" it, only on the EVR FWD Podcast.
