On this week's show I have Stephanie Slocum who founded Engineers Rising. She has extensive experience of supporting women in to technical areas as well as encouraging them to stay. Stephanie is on a mission to normalize engineering, technology, science, and math (something she refers to as STEM). She feels there are not enough women in these fields and particularly in leadership positions.
She helps women become influential leaders while having a life. Stephanie also helps organizations committed to gender equity in STEM, create work environments that retain and engage their women.
This was the main issue we discussed during this episode. |Young people can be encouraged in to the fields but even after they’ve completed their degrees, they may not continue on to work. When they do start work, the drop out rate can be as high as 50%...

Carrie Morey is a working mum with 3 girls. She began her business with her mother Callie. Although Callie had a catering company at the time, it was Carrie who thought she could market and promote quality biscuits. This was because there was no-one else doing this in her part of the US at the time – and particularly online.
On the show Carrie talks about how she saw a gap in the market and subsequently took the business to significant growth with 70 employees in 16 years since it began in 2005. Now she has a thriving brand with 4 outlets and a mobile food truck.

The Power of 10 refers to is that any action you take (because it costs you something as an initiative), needs to be multiplied by the costs of doing this same action for the next 10 years. Episode 48
Released September 9, 2021
Lou Everett, and Sherri McManus, husband and wife team from The Lou Everett Group are this week's guests.
Sherri McManus talks about the experiences that lead her to leave the business she worked for and start work as a consultant and trainer.
This often happens, it seems, because someone has an entrepreneurial idea and wants to go it alone. But, in Lou and Sherri’s case, it was also because she found herself exhausted by mismanagement of the team she was in.
Lou worked for the company too in a leadership role. Despite this apparent ability to influence things, he found it equally difficult to alter their work practices. The two of them share their story of how they decided to offer training, coaching, and speaking, to teach better ways to communicate and prevent a toxic culture.

Tom Kereszti joins the podcast to talk about his book "C-Suite and Beyond, the 4 keys to leadership success".
In particular, Tom talks about what we need to do to become successful and a strong, capable leader.
Tom’s expertise and coaching concentrates on helping people realise their ‘sweet spot’ is the cross-over between 3 concentric circles. These are about identifying who you are, what you’re passionate about, and what you’re good at. Recognising this, says Tom, is the first and most valuable step.

This week's guests is Jan Hoath, who talks about JOY www.janhoath.com
Jan's message is to encourage leaders to understand and embrace the powerful benefits of experiencing joy. It may seem easy to do, but I don't believe it is. Many Executives I work with are adrenaline junkies and want to push hard at life without ever really stopping. This becomes a deeply ingrained habit often sacrificing joy in the process. It can cause stress for some people, because they don’t take much down time or stop working. Jan’s message is about building joy in to your life so that it becomes a priority rather than a secondary benefit from achieving something.
