Grandparents being involved in their grandkids' lives seems to be a generational and cultural thing. If your grandpa had such bad PTSD that he couldn't be trusted around kids, that's a bad indicator. On the other hand, in some cultures it's not unusual to put your parents in a suite on the third floor. Probably a lot of spending time with the kids in those households. The real difficulty is less spending time and more picking a name.
