The Fighting Moose

Today, we will read the book, “The Rocket Book” written by Peter Newell. As of late, my family and I have been getting into launching model rockets. I used to do this as a kid but now my son, has a piqued interest in doing this as well. It's definitely fun and we impressed some kids who were riding their bikes by when we launched the other day. I encourage you to launch a rocket or two and see how fun it is.

Bible Verse:

Romans 12:9-13

“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord's people who are in need. Practice hospitality.”

Today, we will read about Pancake Tuesday, or possibly more known as Fat Tuesday. This is the day that marks the last day before the 40 days of lent that leads up to Easter. Please patronize your local churches if they are doing fish frys or any other Lenten activities. Most use these proceeds as fundraisers for whatever they are doing or need.

Most of us have probably heard of Thor, whether it be through the Marvel movies that have been popular in recent years or whether it be that you have read Norse mythology before. Today, we take a journey to Jotunheim with Thor, Loki, and Thialfi and we discover that sometimes, things aren't always as they seem.

My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nine. What does that mean? Oh wait, there is supposed to be “Pizzas” at the end. If you are like me, you grew up saying that to remember the order of the planets in our solar system. However, in 2006, Pluto was downgraded to a dwarf planet. I don't know what the mnemonic is today to remember the planets but I'm still using this one. Anyway, back to the story, we are going to read the story “Expedition Pluto” from the book “Teen-age Super Science Stories” written by Richard M. Elam.

The day of love, St. Valentine's Day. That is what today's episode is about. This story, like all the rest of the holidays we have looked at since November, comes from the book “Holiday's and Happy Days” by Hamish Hendry. Be sure to check out the link for “The Five Love Languages.” This is a book that may help you decide what your love language is and what the love language is of your significant other.

So it's time to revisit another story about Buster Bear. I haven't quite figured out why the Little People of the Green Forest are so obsessed about Buster Bear and his tail or lack thereof. Oh well, in today's episode, we find out some interesting facts about black bears and we see a little bit of the mischief that Buster Bear likes to cause. Be sure to check out the other episodes titled, “Buster Bear's Big Cousins”, which is actually the story that comes after this one, and “Why Buster Bear Appears to Have No Tail” and also don't forget to check out the audiobook, “The Adventures of Buster Bear.”

Here in Michigan the past few days, we have been in the negative temperatures with windchills down into the -20 degree Fahrenheit range. What better way to beat those winter blues then to have a party? How about three two parties and the building of a slide? That is what we are going to read about today in “It's Party Time!” These stories come to us from the book “Old Mother West Wind” written by Thornton W. Burgess.

Bible Verse:

Deuteronomy 15:11

“There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your fellow Israelites who are poor and needy in your land.”
