The Film Flamers: A Horror Movie Podcast

We're rounding out comedy month with Drop Dead Gorgeous, a 1999 American satirical black comedy mockumentary film directed by Michael Patrick Jann and written by Lona Williams, in which the dynamics of a small Minnesota town unfold as multiple contestants in the regional American Teen Princess Pageant begin to die mysteriously. The film stars Kirsten Dunst, Ellen Barkin, Allison Janey, Denise Richards, and Kirstie Alley, all of whom sport over the top Midwestern accents.

We're kicking off our annual comedy month with Death Becomes Her - a 1992 American satirical black comedy horror fantasy film directed and produced by Robert Zemeckis. The score for the film was composed by Alan Silvestri, and stars Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn as rivals who fight for the affections of the same man and drink a magic potion that promises eternal youth but causes unpleasant side effects.  The film was a pioneer in the use of computer-generated effects and was widely regarded as some of the best work up to that point and beyond.

We're almost done! Diary of the Dead is a 2007 American found-footage Horror film written and directed by George A. Romero, and is the fifth installment of his “of the Dead” series.  This film focuses on a group of college students attempting to navigate their way through the early days of the zombie apocalypse and document their journey as it unfolds, meaning that the events in this movie are happening concurrently to those in Night of the Living Dead.

It's March, which means it's our annual zombie month! We've made it through George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, and Day of the Dead; and now it's time for Land of the Dead. The plot revolves around a zombie attack on Pittsburgh, where a feudal-like government has arisen during the zombie apocalypse.

We're kicking off our deep dives for the month of love with Hellraiser, the 1987 British supernatural horror film written and directed by Clive Barker, in his directorial debut.  The film is based on Barker’s 1986 novella The Hellbound Heart, and its plot focuses on a mystical puzzle box which summons the Cenobites, a group of extra-dimensional sadomasochistic beings who do not differentiate between pain and pleasure.
