Everyone is buzzing about 'WAP', the latest collaboration by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion. There were some celebrity cameos in the video by the likes of Normani, Rosalia and Kylie Jenner in the video - but it’s the Kylie appearance that has people upset. 

There is now a petition to get Kylie removed from the music video since a lot of people believe she appropriates black culture. Cardi B has addressed the situation on Twitter by responding to a tweet that read: 

“Normani did ALL this and Kylie walked down the hall and opened a door. If that’s not a perfect casual indication of Black women having to do the most and white women do the bare minimum to get somewhere, I don’t know what is.”

In now deleted tweets Cardi responded by saying, in part:  "Not everything is about race. Theres issues our there in the world that it is about race that I preach all the time about this. This is not a bout f****** race. Why did I put Kylie on my music video? She treated my sister and daughter so lovely at her kid bday party. Travis and Set are real close and Kris Jenner have given me advice..."

More issues came up with the release of the WAP music video. Carol Baskin, most well known from the docu series Tiger King is calling out Cardi B and Megan the Stallion for featuring exotic cats. Carol is the CEO of The Big Cat Rescue and she told Billboard that the rappers use of big cats as props could be detrimental to the, since it glamorizing the idea of having them as pets as well as glamorizes the idea that rich people keep tigers as pets. 

A lot of fans are concerned for Azealia Banks after she shared some pretty disturbing instagram stories over the weekend. She has since provided updates in which it appears she is in a better place. 

Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner have shared their first photo since giving birth to their daughter Willa. Joe shared a photo on his Instagram story of him and Sophie posing on their couch with a fake Vogue cover that says “August Issue 2020 - Wear a mask. That’s a tea” 

Simon Cowell broke his back after falling off his electric bike around the courtyard of his home. He was taken to the hospital and had to undergo surgery but is reported to be doing fine and is in the best possible hands. (3:53)

Taylor Swift has set a record with her new album Folklore. She has become the first artist to ever debut at number 1 on both the Hot 100 with her single ‘cardigan’ and sit at the top of the Billboard 200 in the same week. She is the first artist to ever debut in the number one spot for both. This is also her 7th number one album. In just one week she has the highest selling album of 2020.

Fans seem to think that there is a big announcement coming from Taylor Swift tomorrow.  That is when the deluxe version of her album Folklore comes out that will have a bonus track called “The Lakes”. Taylor is always leaving hints in everything she goes and in the album she has a track called “august” as well as another called “seven” which could mean something big is coming with this bonus song. Some believe it could be the announcement that she got secretly married to her boyfriend Joe Alwyn, others think possibly a pregnancy. Of course right now these are all just rumours. Nothing is confirmed. 

Dua Lipa announced that she is releasing Club Future Nostalgia the Remix album which is going to be remixes of song from her album Future Nostalgia and there are some big names helping her out. A new version of her song Levitating is going to feature Missy Elliott and Madonna which is going to be unreal coming out on August 21st and her song Physical is getting a remix by Mark Ronson which is going to feature Gwen Stefani coming out even sooner on August 14th.

It turns out that Taylor Swift acted fast, changing her merchandise brand name after it was brought to her attention that there was a website with the same name and similar logo. Taylor originally was going with the name “The Folklore” which was the same as a website for African apparel and accessories so her and her team quickly switched it to just Folklore. The owner of the website said after she brought this up to Taylor’s team they were quick to make changes which she says is great but said it’s part of a larger conversation that needs to be had. Taylor is currently selling sweatshirts, tshirts and cardigans to promote her new album.

Megan Thee Stallion is still recovering from being shot in both feet earlier this month after Rihanna wanted to make sure she is doing alright so she sent flowers with a note saying “Wishing you a full and speedy recovery Meg! Just know you’ve got a whole crew over here sending good vibes your way. Love Rihanna and the Fenty Corp gang”  

 

50 Cent apologized earlier this week for sharing a meme about the incident but after watching Megan’s instagram live where she went into detail of how being shot and having to go through surgery was the worst experience of her life he is now saying sorry for making light of the situation.

The Chainsmokers hosted a show in The Hamptons which is now being investigated but the Department of Health after videos show a large crowd of people gathered near the stage with no masks or spacing in sight. Which is not great - considering this was a drive in concert technically. NY Governor Andrew Cuomo expressed his displeasure on Twitter. 

Fans are stoked for Beyoncé’s visual album ‘Black is King’ that is being released on Disney + tomorrow! The whole film is composed of music videos for song from “The Gift” which was an album Beyoncé came out with to accompany The Lion King remake that she was a part of last year. The trailer dropped a few weeks back and gave a insight into what we can expect and it looks truly incredible - just so well shot so I can only imagine but what full film is going to give us. There are going to be a ton of cameos as well including Beyoncé’s mom Tina, her husband Jay-Z, Lupita Nyong’o, Kelly Rowland and our Canadian own Jessie Reyez. The visual album is also executive produced, directed and written by Beyoncé.

Let’s take a little visit down memory lane with a throwback. On this exact day back in 2003, a ton of bands and artists got together in Toronto for Molson Canadian Rocks for Toronto also known as SARSStock. 

There was approximately half a million people that go together (something we would never see happen anytime soon) to see people like The Rolling Stones, ACDC, Rush, The Guess Who and Justin Timberlake who people were not a big fan of, a lot of them throwing things including water bottles at him during his performance. The show was to help boost the economy in Toronto after the SARS outbreak. Hopefully a day comes in the future where we can all get together and see some of our favourite artist perform post pandemic.

Dermot Kennedy called in to chat with Shannon Burns about how he's been adapting his career to the changing nature of the music industry. 

Dermot tells Shannon he's been busy learning the basics of producing music, which has helped him continue creating despite struggling to find studio space. Dermot explains he's not a production veteran yet, though he is excited to be able to improve his artistic contributions to his creative process.

Dermot also describes his mix of emotions about playing the London Natural History Museum on July 30th. Dermot says he's excited to be playing a show with a full band and production, though also mentions the bittersweetness of not playing to a live audience. 

Live music challenges aside, Dermot chuckles about how his latest album 'Without Fear' has spent more time at number 1 than any other Irish artist "in 1000 years". Dermot tells Shannon that he's proud of any Irish achievements, and is appreciate of this time of stillness where he can fully reflect on how he's achieved some success while doing something he's passionate about professionally.

Taylor Swift dropped a bombshell and announced that we are getting a brand new album from her tonight at midnight! She made a post saying

“Most of the things I had planned this summer didn’t end up happening, but there is something I hadn’t planned on that DID happen. And that thing is buy 8th studio album, folklore. Surprise! Tonight at midnight I’ll be releasing my entire brand new album of songs I’ve poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musing into. I wrote and recorded this music in isolation but got to collaborate with some musical heroes of mine” 

Demi Lovato is engaged! She made the announcement on her instagram that she is getting married to her boyfriend Max Ehrich!

Nicki Minaj made the big announcement today that she is pregnant! She made the announcement with a photo on his instagram showing off her pregnant belly with the caption that said #preggers.

Concerns about Kanye West’s mental health increased Sunday following a bizarre campaign-style rally in which he made shocking comments about abortion and slavery. 

Included in Kanye's comments were thoughts such as: “Harriet Tubman never actually freed the slaves, she just had them work for other white people.” 

West started sobbing as he spoke about having urged wife Kim Kardashian to have an abortion when she was pregnant with their first child, North. “I almost killed my daughter,” he said. “Even if my wife were to divorce me after this speech, she brought North into the world, even when I didn't want to.”

The rally was an attempt to collect the 10,000 signatures West needs to get his name on the ballot in South Carolina by noon Monday. (UPDATE: West did not register by the deadline.) 

Linkin Park successfully had a Trump Campaign video removed from twitter. The president retweeted a video that used their song “In The End” from 2002. The band let their fans now that they did not and does not endorse Trump and did not give permission to use their music. 

Fans are remembering Chester Bennington, the lead singer of Linkin Park for his many achievements and amazing stage presence as today is the 3 year anniversary of his death. 

Beyoncé has released the trailer for her new visual album Black Is King that is set to be released on Disney Plus on July 31st. It is coming out two weeks after the one year anniversary of The Lion King coming out and Disney said “The film reimagines the lessons from the 2019 blockbuster for today’s young kings and queens in search of their own crowns.” They also described the movie by saying “These timeless lessons are revealed and reflected through Black voices of today, now sitting in their own power. Black Is King is an affirmation of a grand purpose, with lush visuals that celebrate Black resilience and culture. The film highlights the beauty of tradition and Black excellence.”

The trailer shows that there are a number of featured guests such as Jay-Z, Kelly Rowland, Pharrell, Tina Knowles-Lawson (Beyoncé’s mother) Lupita Nyong’o and many more. The film was written, directed, and executive produced by Beyoncé. 

Justin Timberlake and his wife Jessica Biel just celebrated the birth of of their second child! Daily Mail confirmed that they gave birth to a baby boy about a week ago who is a brother to their 5 year old son Silas.

Kyne from Canada's Drag Race caught up with Shannon Burns after being eliminated from the show.

Though her time on the show was short, Kyne tells Shannon how she's proud of being unapologetically herself, and expresses how she remains satisfied with her time on Drag Race.

Now, with more time on her hands, Kyne tells Shannon how she plans to continue creating TikToks fuelled by her love for numbers and math!

The #FreeBritney movement is getting more attention online as of late and now Britney’s former photographer Andrew Gallery is speaking out. 

Gallery worked with her back in 2008 and said he is worried about her since seeing so much online and wanted to speak up since he has an alleged letter from her going into details her conservatorship that he received from her at the time. 

He posted a series of TikTok’s reading the letter. Andrew also said he was forced to sign a contract preventing him from speaking out sooner. 

Britney Spears’ mom is trying to gain a bigger control in matters concerting her daughter conservatorship.

Lynne Spears has requested to be included in decisions related to the pop star’s finances and trust. She filed paperwork this week and if she is approved she would receive notice of all matters involving her trust, something her father has had full control over for over a decade.  

Its still unclear if Kanye West is serious about running for president. New York Magazine reported that he scrapped his plans to run all together that he only announced less than two weeks ago. 

According to the Associated Press, Kayne has filed with the Federal Election Commission and has qualified to appear on Oklahoma’s presidential ballot... A spokesperson for the FEC confirmed that they received the Statement of Organization from Kanye but could not confirm the legitimacy of the filing at press time." 

Megan Thee Stallion said she feels lucky to be alive after she was shot on Sunday. She was shot in the foot and had to undergo emergency surgery. She made a post on her instagram saying that she wanted to set the record straight since reports were coming out that were inaccurate. She said 

“On Sunday morning, I suffered gunshot wounds as a result of a crime that was committed against me and done with the intention to physically harm me. I was never arrested, the police officers drove me to the hospital where I underwent surgery to remove the bullets. I’m incredibly grateful to be alive and that I’m expected to make a full recovery, but it was important for me to clarify the details about this traumatic night. I’m currently focused on my recovery, so I can return back to my life and back to making music as soon as possible.”

This was doing an incident she was at with Tory Lanez where he was arrested for carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle after a party in the Hollywood hills. He was released on a 35 thousand dollar bond a few hours later. 

We finally have more information about what we can expect for the 10 year anniversary of one direction getting together! 

According to PR Simon Jones there is going to be a 10 years of One Direction anniversary website, a brand new anniversary celebration video for YouTube, reformatted EPs among other things. The official anniversary of the group getting together is one week from today, July 23rd.
