The Final Word Cricket Podcast

The 2024 England West Indies Daily, Edgbaston, Day 2: Does Joe Root end up overtaking Sachin Tendulkar's Test runs tally? We are distracted by that question and the Olympics before coming back to the Test at Edgbaston, where England are back in a commanding position thanks to the former and the coming man, Jamie Smith. Daniel Norcross is at the match in Birmingham, he's with Adam Collins in London.

The 2024 England West Indies Daily, Edgbaston, Day 1: What a strange old day that was. For almost all of it, it felt like England would sleep well tonight. But after losing three quick wickets in a frenetic mini-session before the close, it is the visitors on top at Birmingham. To try and explain how this all played out, Adam Collins has Cam Ponsonby with him.

Season 16, Episode 25: Another week, another proposed job for Justin Langer. Sure, he doesn't want it, and the AFL club doesn't want it, but it's a fun idea. Also, the ICC has yet another meeting and yet again doesn't mention the war (in Afghanistan), but at least the Women's World Cup is expanding for teams that are not Afghanistan. Chamari Atapattu keeps tearing it up in the Asia Cup, and we have announcements about the Final Word XI and some upcoming live shows.

The 2024 England West Indies Daily, Trent Bridge, Day 4: That escalated quickly. Another long and competitive day of Test cricket, with West Indies holding the brakes on England to just enough of a degree to slow things down. Jayden Seales screamed and bowled screamers, Joe Root and Harry Brook did numbers, before Mark Wood got his chance to go express. With things in the balance, the last session introduced a rush of surprises. Daniel Norcross joins Geoff Lemon.

The 2024 England West Indies Daily, Trent Bridge, Day 2: It was doom and gloom after Lord's and not unreasonably so - the Windies were uncompetitive in London and smashed inside seven sessions. But what a difference a week makes. The visitors have enjoyed splendid batting conditions at Nottingham to be within striking distance of a lead, the highlight of their work a stirring maiden Test ton from Kavem Hodge. Daniel Norcross is at Trent Bridge and called the beautiful century moment on radio, he's chatting with Adam Collins.

The 2024 England West Indies Daily, Notts Test, Day 1: It's a strange day when 400+ runs are smashed but the batting team goes to bed short of satisfied. Who knows, maybe they're chuffed with how they went about it after being sent in? It's all for Daniel Norcross and Cam Ponsonby to ponder at the close of play at Nottingham.

Season 16, Episode 24: The weekend was enormous, though not due to any Test cricket being played at Lord's. Instead of a close fifth day, Sunday had a gunman shooting at a US presidential candidate before Spain shot England out of the Euros final. But in our small cricket world, Australia gives a glimpse of its white-ball future, Pakistan gets back to infighting, New Zealand has more contract intrigue, and there are two major coaching moves in India.
