October 23, 2022 E72: Noah & Chase discuss if the sign gifts (healing, tongues, prophecy, miracles) are still active
Guest co-host Chase Stancle joins Noah to discuss "the sign gifts" of healing, tongues, prophecy, and miracles. The debate about these gifts has torn apart the church and left unbiblical teaching on both extremes. We wade through the confusion and abuses of an important but mysterious topic.

August 09, 2022 Ep. 69: Pastor Jack and Becky Sytsema on being in a mixed orientation marriage and how the Church should treat LGBTQ+ people
In addition to our audio podcast, you can now watch The Flip Side on YouTube: https://youtu.be/mC2u6m13T5M
This is Part 2 of a two-part series with Pastor Jack and Becky's story that began in Episode 67 of the Flip Side. Please go back and listen to Episode 67 before listening to Episode 69.

In this episode, Noah interviews Pastor Jack and Becky Sytsema on being in a mixed orientation marriage where Becky is straight and Jack is not. Jack and Becky are church planters who planted Lake Effect Church in Grand Rapids, MI, where Jack serves as the senior pastor. Jack and Becky have been married 26 years. For the first 23 years of marriage, Jack desperately wanted to believe he was "ex-gay". Similar marriages often end in divorce. Listen to how Jack and Becky's marriage actually thrived, as well as the personal health Jack found by no longer hiding from his wife or his church. This is a rich conversation about Jack and Becky's story, about the covenant of marriage, and about how the Church needs to treat LGBTQ+ people.

Psalm 131
My heart is not proud, Lord,
    my eyes are not haughty;
I do not concern myself with great matters
    or things too wonderful for me.
2 But I have calmed and quieted myself,
    I am like a weaned child with its mother;
    like a weaned child I am content.
3 Israel, put your hope in the Lord
    both now and forevermore.

June 25, 2022 Ep. 67: Pastor Jack Sytsema Shares About Experiencing Same-Sex Attraction in a Mixed Orientation Marriage
In addition to our audio podcast, you can now watch The Flip Side on YouTube: https://youtu.be/0sfUSUyktkE
Noah intros the topic of LGBTQ+ people and theology as a lead up to Pastor Jack Sytsema's testimony sermon. This sermon is Noah's top resource for helping understand a biblical view of sexuality and compassion for LGBTQ+ people. It's nuanced and doesn't fit into the prescribed categories of the current theological debates (Jesus wasn't good at fitting into prescribed categories either...).

In our next Flip Side episode, Noah will be interviewing Jack and his wife Becky.

Jack Sytsema is lead pastor at Lake Effect Church in Grand Rapids, MI. As a native of Grand Rapids it would be easy to think he didn’t venture far from home. But he’s lived in California, where he graduated from Fuller Theological Seminary; Colorado Springs, where he interned and eventually became Dean of Wagner Leadership Institute; Melbourne, FL where he was CFO of a large medical practice and non-profit for individuals with developmental disabilities. God eventually brought him back to West Michigan where he and his wife, Becky, planted Lake Effect Church in 2016. Jack and Becky have been married for 25 years and live with their three sons in Zeeland, Michigan.
