You have a mind and a heart, the invisible parts of your soul. Wisdom is stored in the heart and learned in the mind. When you hear the teaching of the Word of God and you learn it, it doesn’t do any good until you apply it in your life. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” (Prov 1:7). The objective of life is to get as much Biblical wisdom as possible to have foresight and discernment to make good decisions. Without humility, you can’t orient yourself to God’s gracious wisdom. “Arrogance only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is found in those who take advice” (Prov 13:10). The wisdom of God is never relative - it is always absolute. It doesn’t change. Divine viewpoint—a lifestyle of wisdom—is the highest form of happiness that can exist in this life. It is the sum of the Word of God you’ve learned and applied in your life.

Volition is the chooser, the decider in your soul. Developing a FLOT line in your soul is positive volition. Negative volition is refusing to believe or learn the Word of God. Negative volition is also refusing to rebound a known sin. “If I regard inquiry in my heart, the Lord will not hear me.” (Ps 66:18). If the Holy Spirit is quenched in your life by unconfessed sin, then there can be no faith perception because you’ve shut off the teaching ministry of the Holy Spirit. Many Christians fall into negative volition by being distracted by the details of life. That’s why we’re told in the Bible to put on the full armor of God to withstand the lures of the devil’s world (Eph 6:11-17).

Worry and fear are sins and won’t help you handle adversity. "Do not be anxious for your life" (Matt 6:25). This is a mandate from God. Worry is self-centered emotionally driven fear. Faith is the absence of fear. “In God I will put my trust and I will not be afraid of what man can do to me” (Ps 56:11). Faith is you claiming God’s promises. Without faith-rest, you will have stress in your life. If you orient to God’s will and plan for your life then you will focus on how God uses adversity in your life. Wake up and realize that without Christ you have no control over your existence. “Many are the plans in man’s heart but it is the Lord’s purpose that always prevails” (Prov 19:21).

Patience is the strongest kind of faith in the Christian life. Put your faith in God and His Word. “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God” (Rom 10:17). Patience is developed by means of your spiritual life. God will put you through chaotic times to teach you to use His problem-solving devices. Patience is an amazingly powerful character asset that frees you from emotional sins that will override your thinking. “Be joyful in hope and patient in affliction” (Rom 12:12). Patience is required in suffering and adversity so we don’t get ahead of God, so we wait on His solutions. “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him.” (Ps 37:7). One of the reasons God allows adversity in our life is so that through our use of patience we can glorify Him by using the faith-rest drill. “There is no temptation overtaken you except what is common to mankind and God is faithful. He will not let you be tested beyond what you can bear, but when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so you can endure it” (1 Cor 10:13). Impatience is an acquired flaw.

No one knows the date they will die. Are you gambling on your future? “What is your life?” (James 4:13). Life is very valuable and it’s brief. ”Just a vapor, here today, gone tomorrow” (James 4:14). Redeem the time you have left wisely. God has a plan for you. Stay filled with the Holy Spirit and learn God’s Word to understand it and live it. God’s plan is perfect for you. Are you willing to learn it? Are you tired of gambling on the future? “Nothing is hidden from God. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before Him, to Whom we must give an account” (Heb 4:13). “His eyes are upon the ways of man and He sees all of his steps” (Job 34:21).

Solomon’s great wisdom, status, and wealth backfired on him because he took his eyes off God. Solomon went into operation boomerang, a frantic search for happiness. Solomon tried to purchase happiness and it didn’t work. It was vanity, emptiness. “Whatever my eyes desired I kept not from them. I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought and on the labor that I had labored to do and behold everything was vanity and striving after wind” (Eccl 2:11). Look at your bank account. Look at your collections. They mean nothing. As Solomon said, “I came into this world naked and naked I shall leave it.” Understanding and following the will of God gives you inner happiness. “Happiness belongs to those who hear my Father’s Word and keep it” (Luke 11:27-28). Having a valid spiritual life by means of occupation with Jesus Christ as a young person will prepare you for the challenges you will face like an old person. Solomon finally got it, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter, fear [respect] God and keep His Mandates” (Eccl 12:13). Keep your eyes on God, not people, circumstances, or things.

Solomon had unbelievable wisdom and wealth, yet he was consumed with a frantic search for happiness. The book of Ecclesiastes tells us about it. Human viewpoint says people, things or circumstances can make you happy and it’s not true. What makes you happy is to renovate your thinking. Don’t think as the world thinks—you are just a sojourner in this devil’s world. “Let this mind be in you that was also in Christ Jesus” (Phil 2:5). If you get out of fellowship with God and search for happiness eventually you’ll end right back where you started - operation boomerang. “The wind goes toward the south and turns to the north. It whirls around continually and returns to its circuits” (Eccl 1:6). Solomon’s departure from the Lord led him to seven different substitutes he hoped would fill the emptiness in his heart, but they didn’t. Unhappy people take their unhappiness with them wherever they go. "The pursuit of happiness causes bad decisions which only intensify one’s unhappiness. Forgiveness is a sign of nobility in the Christian life. It's unique to Christianity. “Forgive as Christ forgave” (Eph 4:32). Forgiveness forgets. The two must go together. Justice belongs to God. We are never to retaliate. “For with what measure you measure, it will be measured back to you again” (Matt 7:2). Forgiveness requires the use of the problem-solving devices of impersonal love and grace orientation. “If someone says I love God and hates his brother he is a liar” (1 John 4:20). Let go of hypersensitivity. Forgiveness requires humility.

Forgiveness is unique to Christianity. God never fails to forgive. We must learn to forgive. “If someone says I love God and hates his brother, he is a liar” (1 John 4:20). How often should you forgive someone who has offended you or done something against you? the Bible says always. Retribution and retaliation are sins. Don’t go there. Recall the words of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:24). Could you say this if you were being killed? Paul wrote, “Dearly beloved do not avenge yourself but rather give place unto wrath [in other words don’t let wrath take hold of you] for it is written, ‘Vengeance is mine, I will do the repaying’ says the Lord” (Matt 7:1-7). Humility is key to the Christian life. Humility and forgiveness go together. Hypersensitivity is the opposite of humility and often leads to sins of vindictiveness and implacability. The believer is obligated to extend forgiveness.
