Choose Your Leaders Wisely

• To be led by a coward is to be controlled by all that the coward fears
• To be led by a fool is to be led by the opportunists who control the fool
• To be led by a thief is to offer up your most precious treasures to be stolen
• To be led by a liar is to ask to be lied to
• To be led by a tyrant is to sell yourself and those you love into slavery

Please enjoy this audio of Octavia Butler at a panel discussion at UCLA in 2002. FYI, this book sounds great:

Positive Obsession: The Life and Times of Octavia E. Butler

"...places Butler’s story firmly within the cultural, social, and historical context that shaped her life: the Civil Rights Movement, Black Power, women’s liberation, queer rights, Reaganomics...reveals how these influences profoundly impacted Butler’s personal and intellectual trajectory and shaped the ideas central to her writing"
