There is an abundance of opportunity in the Esports World. Dr. Seth Jenny proves this point in the fact that he realized that there was a hole in the academic study of how Esports and competitive gaming affects the health and wellness of the players.
He is a founding member of the Esports Research Network, is on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Esports, and has done extensive study into Esports.
This was a fascinating conversation that goes to show that you don't have to be a player or setting up tournaments to have a major impact on the gaming world.

I look around at so many gamers struggling to get their idea, venture or business going. I respect the hustle, but I've got to wonder why it seems that so many are trying to reinvent the wheel in getting people to purchase from them.
I think it comes down to a lack of understanding of the basic principles of sales and marketing. The principles are universal, but not universally taught.
Let's talk about what it takes to go from "idea" to "money in the bank."

Something that bothers me about the gaming space is the "begging culture" that I see.
Everyone seems to be trying to get "donations" (they're really tips) or trying to find "sponsors" (they're really advertisers). So many people seem incapable of admitting the fact that content creators are in fact marketers and sales people, that teams are really media companies, and that very few people actually have a good idea of what they're doing.
We've got to change the cultural mindset if the space is going to get the money flowing like we all know that it should.

I talk a lot about "mindset" and "perspective" and abstract concepts of what can help a business owner be successful in the gaming and esports space. However, if there was ever ONE THING that I don't see people doing enough of, it's advertising!
Advertising is a fantastic way to grow a following, get more views, and build a brand.
And it's something that we need to talk about!

The way that business is done around the world is different depending on where you're at. This is why, in the age of the internet, content creation and Esports, we have to be cognizant of how others approach business when we intend to partner with others.
Some move fast. Some move slow. Others have weird customers. But we need to be aware of them in order to give the most that we can to others.

Mason Colestock was self-admittedly a bad Rocket League player. But that led him to want to help other players who were not near the top of the ladders.
What followed was an Esports career that has led him to RBG where he now is the Assistant General Manager.
Mason is a true role model for those who want to create their own future in Esports.
