In March 17's installment of Gateway's "Timeless" series, Pastor Kenny Green explores the adage "With years the vine yields better wine".  We know that time does not necessarily impart wisdom.  The biblical principle at work here tells us that we are wise when we learn from our elders and invest in our youth.  Yet, our pride and ignorance make it hard to absorb wisdom and easy to reject it.  And worse yet, evil is happy to lead us astray.  God desires that every generation would come to know him, and to make him known.

March 10 continues the Gateway series "Timeless", exploring the biblical wisdom behind familiar expressions.  Pastor Kenny Green takes on the care due to our speech in the adage, “Words once spoken cannot be taken back, like arrows they find their mark".  We are reminded that we are wise when we consider the power of our words.  Our culture encourages us to speak "our truth" in all circumstances, and to treat our opinions as facts.  Scriptural wisdom challenges this.  Instead, we are encouraged to listen first to understand, and to speak with discernment to make our needs known.  Our words should convey our care for the listener, having considered whether they will bear good fruit.

Pastor Kenny Green's message from 3/3 continues in Gateway's "Timeless" series, exploring the saying "The wise create proverbs for fools to learn, not repeat."  We are instructed that we need to have a growth mindset if we are to learn new skills and implement new insights.  We should be open to learning from any one and everyone.  We should learn from our mistakes and failures, and cultivate an attitude of humility.  We should receive and bear in mind that our identity is found in Jesus and nothing else.  In him is the contentment we seek that comes from the steadfast love of God.

Pastor Kenny Green wraps-up the Gateway Fresh:  Prayer Recipes for A Changed Life series with encouragement to pray for wisdom.  We are reminded that wisdom is God's truth applied appropriately in context, and that we will need the discipline to act accordingly.  Kenny coaches us to seek first God's wisdom in our trials and mistakes.  The challenges of our nuanced and complex lives in a post-truth culture only underscore the importance of this.  As we are tempted to become more self-reliant we need more wisdom, even as our influence increases.

Pastor Kenny Green continues with Gateway's series Fresh:  Prayer Recipes for a Changed Life.  His message revolves around God's faithfulness to us, especially in times of loss and grief when it can be so hard to see.  We are reassured that God will never waste a hurt in our lives.  The losses we experience in life can bring us to an end of ourselves, uncovering the work of God's Holy Spirit in our lives.  When we are hurt beyond words he finds them for us.  We are encouraged to come to him in our rawness when grief strikes, and our prayers allow him to search our hearts.  We are reminded that in God's grace he will replace our self-pity with dignity.
