December 17, 2023Make Room | Who Is In The Room? - Kenny GreenQuestions? Need Prayer? Text us!Pastor Kenny Green continues Gateway's Advent series "Make Room" in his message from December 17. Teaching from Matthew 2:1-12, he speaks from four succinct statements on how Jesus's grace is fully sufficient for us each day. First, we are reminded that all are welcome in God's story and that no one is too far away. Next is the truth that pursuing and following God are worth it, and we are encouraged to persevere in our difficulties. Third, the exhortation to give God our best underscores his worthiness. What might we we be willing to give him if he asked? In closing we reflect on the individualistic character of our culture, and are invited to help subvert it in having faith for others and inviting them into our lives.Visit our website at: https://www.gatewaychurch.com/central-austin/If you would like to give towards all that we are doing in Central ATX, you can go to https://gatewaychurch.onlinegiving.org/donate/ and select "Central Campus"Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/gatewaycentralaustin/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/gatewaycentralaustin...more41minPlay
December 10, 2023Make Room | The Waiting Room - Jon EngQuestions? Need Prayer? Text us!December 10's message is delivered by visiting pastor Jonathan Eng from Gateway Pflugerville. Continuing the Making Room series for the season of Advent, we hear about the "11:59" God, the one who comes through for us when we are waiting in the midst of despair. We are reminded that God knows our troubles, and is powerful beyond our understanding to deliver us. When we finally come to an end of ourselves we receive something we need but didn't know to ask for. Hoping in God without answers allows him to move in unexpected ways. He is faithful to us even in our lapses of faithfulness to him. The waiting he allows for us strengthens us to receive what we really need. November 26, 2023What If Jesus Was Serious? | Good & Bad Fruit - Kenny GreenQuestions? Need Prayer? Text us!Pastor Kenny Green concludes Gateway Church's series on Jesus's Sermon on the Mount with this message from 11/26, unpacking scripture from Matthew 7:13-29. What has sometimes been interpreted as a list of disqualifications from the Kingdom he brings, it is instead an illustration of his invitation to discipleship. Ours in an informed choice to make whether we follow him as the only way to life, but he holds himself out to us as God's provision in this new covenant. The daily rhythms of following Jesus bring learning of him and of ourselves through disciplined obedience. The storms will come, but he promises to be there with us and that we will not collapse under the pressures of the world. There are some hard teachings here. We are warned of the cumulative effect of all influences on us that are contrary to God, and are provided a stark contrast with living out the relationship with Jesus that he offers. This repentance from the ways of the world is described with the help of some words from Phil Knight and Dallas Willard, and we are energized to rush toward life's challenges with divine strength.Visit our website at: https://www.gatewaychurch.com/central-austin/If you would like to give towards all that we are doing in Central ATX, you can go to https://gatewaychurch.onlinegiving.org/donate/ and select "Central Campus"Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/gatewaycentralaustin/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/gatewaycentralaustin...more53minPlay
November 19, 2023What If Jesus Was Serious? | Christians and Culture - Kenny GreenQuestions? Need Prayer? Text us!In Kenny Green's address from November 19, we have a careful explication of what it means to be "salt and light" in the world as Jesus instructs in the Sermon on the Mount. He means to show us that, if we receive him as our King and live like him, we will be transformed. In turn he sends us to transform the world. Matthew 5:13-16 conveys how, as salt and light, we have immense value and redemptive potential in God's kingdom. If we can live in this faith and hope, we can live out Jesus's invitation to be the the hope of the world. It is not an easy message. Those who take it up will not be comfortable, and will likely not experience the privilege in life we thought we were due. Yet if we make God the ultimate authority in our lives, we can bear his peace and love to our chaotic world (Matthew 5:17-20).Visit our website at: https://www.gatewaychurch.com/central-austin/If you would like to give towards all that we are doing in Central ATX, you can go to https://gatewaychurch.onlinegiving.org/donate/ and select "Central Campus"Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/gatewaycentralaustin/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/gatewaycentralaustin...more46minPlay
November 12, 2023What If Jesus Was Serious? | Judging, Asking, Blessing - Kenny GreenQuestions? Need Prayer? Text us! "Don't do anything to someone you wouldn't want done to you." How many of us have had this related to us as "what the bible is trying to say" or "all you really need to know about life"? Yet we know this is wrong on both counts as it really requires nothing of us. We know that scripture tells us unequivocally that we are to love others as we love ourselves, to "treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets" (Matthew 7:12). Kenny Green's message of 11/12 helps explain more of some of the most difficult teachings from Jesus's Sermon on the Mount related in Matthew 7:1-12. To follow Jesus we are to do nothing less than show him to others through our care for them. Indulging the temptation to judge others allows us to ignore our own issues, and prevents us from seeing clearly to treat others compassionately. He calls us to healing in him so that we can reach out to others without condemnation.Visit our website at: https://www.gatewaychurch.com/central-austin/If you would like to give towards all that we are doing in Central ATX, you can go to https://gatewaychurch.onlinegiving.org/donate/ and select "Central Campus"Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/gatewaycentralaustin/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/gatewaycentralaustin...more50minPlay
November 05, 2023What If Jesus Was Serious? | Love In Action - Kenny GreenQuestions? Need Prayer? Text us!Kenny unpacks some of Jesus' most nuanced instruction from the Sermon on the Mount. Throughout this lesson, Christ speaks directly to the posture of every person's heart. His teachings in these passages are difficult to accept even for those who are eager to understand. Drawing out the themes conveyed in Matthew 5:38-48, we are presented with direct instructions that would not have been easy to grasp even then. They are perhaps less so now. Yet, Jesus taught those within earshot to take what they had heard from scripture and believe on its full expression in his authority. This, he knew, was hard. For us in the present to hear and do what was taught so long ago requires that we know plainly what he meant. Jesus's illustrations from that time establish his enduring command for us to do kindness to others, and honor their dignity as our own. He reassures us that all who belive in him have our identity and strength in his eternal power. Any sense of entitlement to vengence or payback is erased: only the Enemy wishes us to have enemies. We should rather see in others the "brother for whom Christ died" related by Dietrich Bonhoffer, and the "weight of glory" due to those God loves "beyond all our merits" described by C.S. Lewis. Jesus instructs that we are are to let others see him in us, and to rest in him as the mediator of the New Covenant (Hebrews 12:24)Visit our website at: https://www.gatewaychurch.com/central-austin/If you would like to give towards all that we are doing in Central ATX, you can go to https://gatewaychurch.onlinegiving.org/donate/ and select "Central Campus"Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/gatewaycentralaustin/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/gatewaycentralaustin...more42minPlay
