The GCN Cyclocross Podcast With Jeremy Powers

This week Jeremy talks to Swiss cyclocross pro Simon Zahner about balancing his career with a wife and family, and how he's struggled with a career in a country where cycling is still relatively a fringe sport. He also shares his resources at races with a close friend and fellow Swiss pro, Marcel Wildhaber. Zahner is known within cross for being particularly skilled at riding in the snow and ice and he talks about how this has enabled him to get podiums at World Cups. He’s also got a 100% win record on the course which will have the upcoming 2020 Cyclocross World Championships and talks honestly about how he expects to race there. 

Also this week, Erwin Vervecken talks about how he designs a cyclocross racecourse after the incredible urban race in Kortrijk city centre, as well as where he’d like to build a race in the future. 

This week Jeremy on GCN’s Cyclocross podcast Jeremy and Marty chat about the latest racing, and the current trend of “firsts”. Jeremy catches up with Mathieu Van Der Poel & Quinten Hermans about their first victories of the year and is also joined by Maghalie Rochette, the Canadian cross superstar currently dominating the Telenet UCI World Cup. She opens up about pre race nerves, woodwork and rap battles. Marty also talks to the young British rider Anna Kay about her progression in the sport and how she's adapting to different conditions. Erwin Vervecken talks about the savage Koppenbergcross the dominance of the Steylarts-777 women’s team and how the return of Mathieu Van Der Poel will affect the remainder of the season. 

This week Jeremy is joined by Katerina Nash, and they talk about her incredible career, balancing mountain biking, cross country skiing and cyclocross and growing up in the Czech Republic under communist control. Katerina also shares her thoughts on the development of women’s racing and her involvement in the organisation of the sport as president of the UCI Athletes Commission. 

Erwin shares his insights into pro cyclocross contracts that secure the appearances of the best riders in the world at every race and how salary changes are affecting how pros balance their seasons.
