Imagination and creativity are topics that sit very close to my heart. They are extremely important aspects of life for many introverted and highly sensitive people.
I felt inspired to put this together after talking with Caroline van Kimmenade from the Happy Sensitive (available in the Haven in June) about creative expression and the importance for highly sensitive people to have healthy processes to filter the daily barrage of information we receive from the world around us.
If we don’t process all the stuff we are bombarded with in a creative and healthy way we will process it in less conscious, less healthy ways instead and may become stressed and anxious as we attempt to deal with a whole load of stuff.
But HOW we can begin to bring our imagination out to play and find ways to express our innate creativity even if we don’t necessarily feel like creative people. Another thing Caroline and I discussed was this fallacy that some people believe about themselves: that they are not creative, just because they can’t draw or don’t do it professionally.
Creativity is so much deeper and wider than that. It’s a way of living, a mindset, a way of filtering the world, and one that we can all develop and live aligned to.
Art is allowing ourselves to listen to the abstract depths of our minds and applying what we experience through creativity to turn it into something real.
We all have imaginations and must re-engage with them like we did when we were kids. The 15 suggestions I outline in the show are:
1. View the World Through Your Child-Eyes
2. Write
3. Play
4. Stream of Conscious Talking (to yourself)
5. Make Up Stories
6. Write down your dreams
7. Read
8. Characters
9. Turn Thoughts Into Things
10. Be Mindful
11. Ask Questions
12. Spend More Time With Imagineers
13. Don’t Try to Be Unique
14. Ask, ‘How could this be improved?'
15. Know that Your Imagination is Limitless
