so I'm in a Facebook group with alleged music enthusiasts and one of the members took the opportunity to post a candid / unauthorized photo of Richard Hell (or the side of Hell's head) shopping at a lower Manhattan Trader Joe's.  Persons with a modicum of good judgement objected, saying Hell deservers the right --- as we all do --- to get the shopping in without jackals (or members of Jackyl) complaining he doesn't look like Antonio Sabato (presumably a young Antonio Sabato, though I don't know, maybe he's taken particularly good care of himself).  

Be it Trader Joe's, Market Basket, Piggy Wiggly, Iceland or Alahan's Corner Shop, if you encounter a person of such repute, please show some goddamn respect and get on with your day.

This week's episode takes a deep dive into the rather complicated legacy of the late Chris Warren and The DX Band.  While fellow musical pioneers / brothers of different mothers Complete were ruling Texas and Faxed Head were laying waste to the West Coast, the DX Band aka "The D-Generation X Band" or "the band that plays D-Generation X's entry music" were carving their own path on the Eastern seaboard. Combining the socio-political insight of Rage Against The Machine with the chops of a mid-tier Rage Against The Machine tribute act, the DX Band burned oh so brightly during the late 1990's.  

Sadly, due to the intervention of WWE solicitor Jerry McDeavitt, I'm unable to play any selections from the DX Band's deep oeuvre besides a YouTube rip of the ensemble serenading a capacity arena audience with their rendition of "America The Beautiful".  Much like Marvin Gaye's inspired reading of "The Star Spangled Banner" at the 1983 NBA All-Star Game, this performance -- highly polarizing at the time -- is now considered a powerful cultural statement for the times, and rightly so. 

There's some other songs, too.  I mean, I had another two hours to fill.

this week's show is a celebration of an occasion that is not merely an important day on the movie calendar but also an acknowledgment of what for some of us could be called a lifestyle.  A few of you could care less about the release of the new motion picture, "Forever Purge", the latest installment in the "Purge" franchise, but for those  who've thrilled to the many twists and turns this series has taken, it's really brought out something deep within.  So we attend "Purge" fan conventions, write "Purge" fan fiction, encourage our employers to observe "Dress Up Like The Movie (Or TV Series) 'Purge' Fridays".  Speaking personally, I've seen no fewer than a half dozen relationships go down the tubes because my partners (with all due respect) insisted "It's only a movie" as opposed to, y'know, the prophecy. 

(I find all of this highly ironic because I know of some philistines reading this are the types who absolutely lose their little minds over anything related to the Star Wars or Harry Potter cinematic universes when neither of those (inferior) franchises explore anything having to do with dressing up like Slipknot and all crime being legal) 

Anyhow, due to copyright considerations (and an active restraining order against me by series creator James DeMonaco), this episode features no dialogue from the “Purge” films or any conversations with persons involved in the production of such.  However, I’ve attempted to improvise with musical selections for 2 hours + and if you’re disappointed, at least you have the opening of “Forever Purge” to look forward to #onlyintheatres

It's funny what sleep deprivation can do to a programmer. For instance, I meant to describe the Fourth World Quartet as primarily consisting of the Miller Brothers (Laurence, Roger and Ben) and instead, sleepy referred to them as "Roger, Laurence and Larry," which makes no sense whatsoever. While we're on the subject of questionable decisions, I'm going to say my promise to bludgeon the individual who wrote a longish critique of last week's episode (and my on-air invitation for that person to visit my home, complete with my street address provided) was ill-advised, however I'm told by the production team it might be edited out of this show. Either way, I'll be out of town for a few days, so the discussion (and/or the bludgeoning) will simply have to wait. Thank you.

as this program starts it’s second year, I am happy to say I’ve dodged a bullet. Not a real bullet, mind you, as im not nearly that fast, but rather an effort by the show’s syndication partners to replace me as the host due to what I’m told are “low engagement numbers”. YouTuber Kyle Kim Klinghoffer aka “Dr. Prakenstein” had been enlisted to take over starting this week, but a russian roulette stunt he was filming went awry (dodging a bullet’s tougher than it sounds, apparently) and I’m told he’s unlikely to be available in the near future. And while the syndicator are now denied access to Kyle Kim’s nearly 6 million YouTube followers, at least you and I still have each other. Until Kyle’s well enough to vlog, anyway.

The one-year anniversary episode of the program features new material from Pilgrim Screw, James Brandon Lewis, Blod, FACS, Susan Alcorn, AKAI SOLO & Navy Blue, PRIVAT and more.

We also have the debut of the program's “BOOK CLUB” feature , with the first tome reviewed being Tim Donaghy’s 2009 best seller, “Personal Foul : A First Person Account of the Scandal that Rocked the NBA “. It’s been called, “the book the NBA doesn’t want you to read,” and with that in mind, instead of dishonoring the memory of NBA commissioner David Stern, we’ll instead catalog OTHER books the NBA doesn’t want you to read, including but not limited to “Are You There God?, It’s Me Margaret”, “The Secret Life of Cyndy Garvey” and Chuck Zito’s “Street Justice”. But there’s also about two hours of music, as I reman concerned most of you lack the intellect or attention span to hang in there with for an extended literary discussion.

the 51st episode of the program reflects on the recent passings of Jerome Young aka New Jack and thespian powerhouse Charles Grodin, and features new recordings from Mosquitoes, Contour, Map 71, JJULIUS, False Negative, Dave Rempis (with Tomeka Reid and Joshua Abrams) and some things that aren't nearly new.

In retrospect, perhaps it wasn't a great idea to enlist Vitaly Borkalitus as this program's new head of marketing, social media and customer service. Admittedly, i was aware of his prior history of threatening / doxing / stalking persons who'd publicly complained about his previous online activities in the eyeglass trade, but I honestly believed he'd turned over a new leaf. Regrettably, after his recent appearance in the New York Times (I think this is this 6th item in the past decade), I have come to understand that his conflict resolution methods do not reflect the values of this show. I would like to offer a complete and total apology to everyone whose credit card details he's shared and if you were amongst the 20 or so people he sent dead rats to, I am truly sorry.  When he said his favorite Met was Dave Kingman during the job interview, I just presumed he liked free swingers (and who doesn't).
