Foundry room rose to being one of Edmonton's top 5 Wedding venues. The fact that they are already booking into 2021 says a lot about how successful they have been. But aside from the beautiful space and the mission of the business, Foundry Room is an event space built on a story. • Ep. 7 | The Power of Collaboration and Having A Bossbabe Community with Kirsten Macdonell of YEGBOSSBABES
COMMUNITY COMMUNITY COMMUNITY. I think that has been such a buzzword in business for the past few years. With hashtags like, #communityovercompetition and #empoweredwomenempowerwomen going all around, it’s most likely that you’ve had a glimpse or have experienced the importance of collaboration & having a thriving community of like-minded people around you.
I really believe in the quote “if you want to go fast, go alone. But if you want to go far, go together.” So from the first moment, even before I figured out what I wanted to do, I knew I needed to surround myself with people who proved to me what’s possible, with a community of inspiring women I can learn from and grow with. I have made that my mission and it’s one of the things that I attribute my growth to.
And if you’re a businesswoman in Edmonton, you probably have heard of, YEGBOSSBABES, a group that fosters a community of women empowering women, braving the sometimes confusing journey of entrepreneurship hand-in-hand, coming together to learn from and support each other.
Hoold my hot chocolate because today, I am sitting down with Kirsten Macdonell, one of its co-founders. She tells us the story of how one text message paved the way for this growing empire which has amassed more than 15,000 people all over their platforms in just a little over a year. They have been providing networking events and workshops, and trainings in different areas of business for entrepreneurs and has been connecting local business with each other through their directory.
We talk about the power of nurturing genuine relationships and collaborating with other local business owners, whether you’re starting up or in the middle. And if you’re ever wondering what goes behind the scenes within their own business, who does what, and what their partnership looks like, Im VERY curious about that so we pull the curtains in this one and she tells us the benefits of having partners especially when it comes to cultivating new ideas to move forward. LOTS OF TRUTH BOMBS IN THIS ONE, GIRLS.
And this is for my introverted entrepreneurs out there too, my heart goes out to you, I am one of you too! Although it doesnt look like it. I know putting yourself out there and immersing yourself in a community can be daunting when you thrive working alone and being on your own, but she has a message for you by the end so stick with us for that!
Are you ready? I know I am. Let’s go.

  • Ep. 3 | Breaking Lawyer Stereotypes & Humanizing Professionals with Jamie Lee Denton of Lawyerd Magazine
Today, we are sitting down with Jamie Lee Denton, who showed up to our coffee date wearing a bright yellow dress and broke all the stereotype that was planted in me about lawyers as we chatted and laughed together.
It made me think about how she is a perfect embodiment of what she wants to convey with her publication, the Lawyered Magazine, where she shines light on the lifestyle and culture of lawyers beyond what we usually see. Because, for me at least, when I think of lawyers, I picture men in suits carrying briefcases full of papers and it doesnt really go anywhere beyond that.

  • Ep. 2 | Giving Everyone A Role Model Through Representation

Amal Mohamud is a Somali community producer here in Edmonton. Through her television show that airs weekly on Omni Channel, not only is she serving her community by giving them a uniting platform, BUT she also educates people about their culture and shines light on the Somali people in a way that’s opposite to what most of the media portray them to be.
