In the ongoing competition of the UK vs US on this podcast, our friends across the pond frequently do a bit better than us on supporting the arts and acknowledging that they are important by financially backing them. But as of this week, get your party hats out, we are catching up! The NYPAL recently opened up applications for their brand spanking new Theatre and Technology Fellowship and we are GOBSMACKED. It’s going to pay someone to use their creativity and the Library’s resources to do a deep dive anywhere in theatre and tech that the Fellow wants to go.
We get to talking about our collaborators that would slay that fellowship, why this bad boy should exist and what it was like the first time Jess tried to watch an archival Broadway recording at NYPAL. It’s a story full of intrigue, microfiche and Patti LuPone. Be warned.

We’ve been throwing around terms willy nilly around here and thought we’d take a beat to talk a bit about what Live Digital means to us, how our clients are using it and why we think the meaning has more to do about what the humans do with the machines than the technology itself.
Listen in for more insight on how Live Digital:
This is the first in a series of breaking down how we’ve built some of the world’s most innovative Live Digital experiences across the last decade.

This week Lucie is working double duty, producing and being a guest! Lucie is sadly leaving Broadway Unlocked this week but before she goes Jess and Joe have lots of questions about what she's taken away from working in live digital and what the heck all of this means! If you've ever wanted to know more about the person behind that mysterious voice that pops in every couple of episodes, this is your one and only chance.

Jess and Joe are thrilled to be new members of WXO, the World Experience Organization. Much like us, they are all about collaboration across different sectors for the sake of sharing new ideas and improving experiences of all varieties. This week we are digging deep into one article from them, all about the hierarchy of experiences. Fundamentally, what does it take for an experience to be memorable, or even transformational? We have lots of thoughts about the application of this model to live digital experience specifically, and we'd love to hear yours, too!

Ring of Keys is an awesome non-profit working to connect and advocate for queer women, non-binary and trans people in musical theater, on and off stage. Joe and Jess were so lucky to sit down with Co-Founder of the org, Andrea Prestinario and newly-minted Executive Director, Aislinn Frantz! They told us the beautiful origin story of Ring of Keys and talked about the power and importance of seeing queer bodies and queer voices at work in theater. Their 3-part concert series continues tomorrow night at Joe's Pub and livestream tickets to watch from anywhere are still available!

This week Jess and Joe speak with Chris Ashworth, creator of QLab software, founder of Figure53 and the Voxel Theater in Baltimore. Chris talks about the way acting has informed how and why he programs the way he does and alternately how knowledge of technology has helped him extend his understanding of what's possible in a theatrical setting. Basically, the stuff dreams are made of.

Welcome to The Get Together, our old-ish podcast with a cool new name! Some things will be different but for now enjoy the comforting sounds of Jess and Joe discussing Spotify's identity issues, how individuals can operate outside of existing technology and the portability of data. It's all about putting power back in the hands of people, as both consumers and artists. Basically we are now fully onboard with blockchain and decentralized communities, join us!

For two people who were very suspicious of NFTs only a few months ago, Joe and Jess have a lot of ideas about their application in the theatre space. Listen to hear about some innovative companies already making NFT merchandise and some of our own ideas about how to tie that merch to in-person experiences and growing theatre communities.

Jess and Joe are again joined this week by Broadway Unlocked's Creative and Cause Director, Jermaine Blackwell! They breakdown a report from the end of last year, detailing how audiences are consuming art, what has changed for them throughout the pandemic and what cultural changes they would like to see reflected in their arts organizations. Yet another example of why data collection and presentation is so important! Hope you enjoy nerding out with us!
