Marie-Louise Gay was the recipient of the Governor General's Award for English Language Children's Illustration for her books Rainy Day Magic and Yuck a Love Story. We sat down to discuss her latest addition to her popular "Stella" series, Read Me A Story, Stella, what it is like writing for both French and English speaking children and more.

This year CJSW teamed up with our friends at Wordfest to bring you interviews with four acclaimed Canadian children's literature writers and illustrators. In this episode we speak with Andrew Nikiforuk. This is a unique episode because Andrew is the first writer we have spoke to who works solely in the realm of non fiction. In 2002 Andrew was the recipient of the Governor General’s Literary Award for non-fiction for his book Saboteurs: Wiebo Ludwig’s War Against Big Oil. Since then he has authored the award winning The Tar Sands: Dirty Oil and the Future of the Continent as well as 2011’s Empire of the Beetle. Andrew Nikiforuk’s latest book is titled The Energy of Slaves: Oil and the New Servitude publised by Grestone press in partnership with the David Suzuki Foundation.

In this episode we speak with acclaimed canadian , poet, teacher, editor, and publisher Phil Hall. Born and raised in rural Ontario, and educated at the University of Windsor, Phil Hall has led an incredibly prolific and diverse career. His 2011 collection of poetry, Killdeer, was the recipient of the Governor General’s Literary award for poetry. CJSW’s Stephanie Weidman sat down in our studios with Phil Hall to talk about what drew him initially to poetry as well as some of his latest work.

Lorna Crozier is an acclaimed Canadian poet, writer and teacher who was the recipient of a Governor General's Literary Award for her collection of poems "Inventing the Hawk". She sat down with CJSW's Geneviéve Dale to discuss her latest collection “The Book of Marvels: a Compendium of Everyday Things”.

CJSW's Sky Hornig sits down with acclaimed author MG Vassanji, the recipient of two Governor General Literary Awards for non-fiction. The discussion surrounds how attempts to pigeonhole Vassanji as a certain type of author impact his writing.

Douglas Glover is a prolific author of novels, short stories and essays. His latest book Attack of the Copula Spiders is a collection of various essays focusing on writing. In 2003 Douglas Glover was the recipient of the Governor General Literary Award for Fiction for his novel Elle. During his time in Calgary as a part of WordFest, Donald sat down with CJSW's Sky Hornig to discuss the art of writing and his approach to reading as a writer.
