Colleen was held captive for seven years, during which she was physically and psychologically abused, and often kept in a wooden box under the couple's bed. This case is notable for the extreme level of control and psychological manipulation exerted by Cameron Hooker, which included a fabricated story about a powerful organization that would harm her family if she attempted to escape. Colleen was eventually able to escape in 1984 with the help of Janice Hooker. The case drew significant media attention due to its disturbing nature and the psychological aspects of the abduction.
