There is a beautiful title given to God in Scripture that you need to know in your deepest moments of pain. He is the God of all comfort. Second Corinthians 1 verses 3 and 4 say, "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God." God does not comfort you just to make you feel better. He comforts you so that you can become a comforter to others. My dear friend, suffering is inevitable in this fallen world. You will experience pain, loss, disappointment, and heartbreak. But you do not have to face these things alone. The God of all comfort is with you. He is the Father of mercies. He is the source of every comfort you will ever need. He knows exactly what you need and when you need it. And He promises to comfort you in all your tribulation. Not some. All.Think about the widow of Zarephath. In 1 Kings 17, she was a Gentile widow gathering sticks for her last meal before she and her son died of starvation. She had nothing. She had no hope. But God sent Elijah to her. God provided flour and oil that did not run out. He comforted her in her desperate situation. Later, when her son died, God raised him through Elijah. God comforted the widow in her deepest loss.Think about Hannah. She was barren in a culture where barrenness was a deep shame. She was taunted by her rival Peninnah year after year. She wept and would not eat. She was deeply distressed. But she poured out her soul to the Lord at the tabernacle. And God comforted her. He gave her a son, Samuel. And her comfort became a testimony of God's faithfulness.Think about the disciples after the crucifixion. They had lost everything. Their Master was dead. Their hopes were crushed. They were hiding in fear. They were in deep grief. But on the third day, Jesus rose from the dead. He appeared to them. He comforted them. He said, "Peace be with you." He restored their hope. The God of all comfort turned their mourning into dancing. So how do you receive comfort from the God of all comfort? First, bring your pain to God honestly. Do not hide it. Do not pretend you are okay. He already knows how you feel. He wants you to come to Him with your tears, your questions, your anger, and your confusion. He can handle your honesty. Pour out your heart to Him.Second, receive comfort from His Word. The Scriptures are filled with promises of comfort. Psalm 34 verse 18, "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart." Isaiah 61 verses 1 through 3 speak of God binding up the brokenhearted. Matthew 5 verse 4, "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." Meditate on these promises. Let them minister to your wounded heart.Third, receive comfort through the Holy Spirit. Jesus called the Holy Spirit the Comforter. He is the Paraclete, the one who comes alongside to help, to console, and to strengthen. Invite the Holy Spirit to comfort you. Spend time in His presence. Let Him minister to the deep places of your heart.Fourth, receive comfort through the body of Christ. God often comforts us through other believers. Do not isolate yourself when you are hurting. Let others pray for you, encourage you, and sit with you in your pain. The comfort of God often comes through the hands and words of His people.Fifth, allow your comfort to become a ministry to others. After you have been comforted, you can comfort others who are going through the same pain. Your trial becomes a platform for ministry. Your testimony of God's comfort becomes a lifeline to someone else who is drowning in grief. What this produces in your life is a ministry of comfort that flows from your own experience of God's comfort. You become a channel of God's comfort to a hurting world. The God of all comfort does not waste your pain. He uses it to make you a comforter. Your deepest hurts become the source of your greatest ministry.Let us pray. Father, I thank You that You are the God of all comfort. You are the Father of mercies. You comfort me in all my tribulation. I bring my pain to You right now. Comfort me. Heal my broken heart. Let Your Word and Your Spirit minister to me. Let me receive comfort from Your body. And when I have been comforted, help me to comfort others with the same comfort I have received. Do not let my pain be wasted. Use it for Your glory. In Jesus mighty name, amen. Hosted on Acast.
