Fantastic Four (2015) released 10 years ago, and with Marvel’s new Fantastic Four reboot just around the corner, I thought it was the perfect time to look back at one of the most infamous comic book movie disasters of all time: 2015’s Fant4stic. In this retrospective video essay, I revisit the film ten years later and explore exactly what went wrong with the reboot that promised so much… and delivered so little.

From the start, the production of Fant4stic was a mess. In this video, I break down the chaotic behind-the-scenes drama, including director Josh Trank’s controversial behavior, studio interference from 20th Century Fox, and the last-minute reshoots that ultimately derailed the movie. This wasn’t just a bad superhero film—it was a production nightmare.

Then we get into the movie itself. I take a deep dive into the plot, characters, and pacing, and explore how the story failed to capture what makes the Fantastic Four so beloved. From the lack of team chemistry, to the grim tone, to the baffling use of Doctor Doom, this movie made nearly every possible mistake in adapting Marvel’s First Family.

10 years later, Fant4stic (2015) stands as a cautionary tale of how not to handle a superhero franchise. As we anticipate Marvel Studios’ upcoming reboot of the Fantastic Four in the MCU, this video reflects on how badly Fox’s version missed the mark—and why we can only hope the next one gets it right.

The brand new Superman (2025) movie — the first film in James Gunn’s DC Universe reboot — has finally been released, and I’ve got some very mixed feelings. In this in-depth video essay and review, I break down why this film left me so conflicted. While there are parts of the movie I absolutely loved, there are also major elements that didn’t land for me.

On the positive side, the character work is incredibly strong. This version of Clark Kent / Superman, played by David Corenswet, brings a refreshing and emotionally resonant take on the Man of Steel. His chemistry with Lois Lane (played by Rachel Brosnahan) is one of the film’s standout elements, and their dynamic helps ground the story in something heartfelt and sincere. Lex Luthor also delivers an intriguing performance that reimagines the classic villain for a new generation.

However, my biggest issues lie in the film's tone and worldbuilding. The comic book aesthetic and heightened tone make the world feel a bit disjointed. While James Gunn is known for blending humor and heart in his storytelling, this time the balance feels a bit off. The larger DCU setup and easter eggs, while exciting for fans, often distract from the core narrative.

This video explores all of that and more. I analyze how Superman (2025) fits into DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, and whether it sets the right tone for the future of the DC franchise. I also compare the film to previous versions of the character from Henry Cavill's Superman, to Christopher Reeve's iconic portrayal, and how Gunn’s version tries to carve its own identity.

As a longtime fan of DC Comics and superhero storytelling, I wanted this movie to work on every level. And while it has flashes of brilliance, it also left me questioning whether this is truly the right direction for the DC Universe. In the video, I dive into all of these themes — hope vs. cynicism, grounded character arcs vs. expansive world building, and what it means to tell a Superman story in today’s world.
