Martin - has frontal lobe damage from an accident when he was 16 as well as having been diagnosed with autism while he was going through the diagnosis process with his children.

Martin talks about how the frontal lobe damage affects him and his autism and how it can be misdiagnosed as Bipolar disorder. Martin talks about how it hurts him to see his children struggling and how he blames himself for passing autism on, the guilt. Martin also talks about his two children with autism and the different challenges they have all faced, as well as his neuro-typical daughter who has anxiety and now works as a carer for children with SEN.

Ann – 2 daughters, 17 year old neuro-typical and a 14 year old who has dyslexia and dyspraxia.

Ann talks about what dyspraxia is, and how it affects her daughter.

Ann talks about feeling isolated when she first got her daughter’s

diagnosis; so she set up an informal group for other parents of children

with dyspraxia. Ann talks about her work in advocacy, and then moving

on to becoming a SENDIASS adviser after having had a lot of experience

with her own child’s additional needs.

Rakhat is from Kyrgyzstan, she has a child with cerebral palsy. now lives in the UK and talks about the long wait for diagnosis. Rakhat visited Kyrgyzstan and got a diagnosis in 2 months, but the UK authorities would not accept the diagnosis. This resulted in her child not receiving the early intervention he needed. Rakhat now travels to other countries to get the therapy her child needs, because of waiting lists and lack of interventions in the UK .
