The Philippines won its first gold medal through Hidilyn Diaz of weightlifting. But the other olympians are still in contention to possibly bring home a second gold. But win or lose, the Filipino athletes deserve the cheer and support from the nation.
The 2020 Olympics should open our eyes for the outpouring of support to the national athletes, even during the preparation stages.
The local government of Taguig City recently passed a "Bike-Friendly Taguig Ordinance" that is aimed at promoting healthy and sustainable living through the regular use of active transportation such as bicycles and kick-scooters. The ordinance created a local Active Transport Office that will lead the campaign to bring out more cyclists among the city dwellers. It also outlined the rights and responsibilities of a cyclist.
Jason Salvador and Arnel Doria talk about this development in the recent episode of radio program "Good Trip" (DZRJ810AM).

This episode highlights the Family Farm Schools started in 1986 and inspired by the French Maisons Familiales Rurales and Spanish Escuelas Familiares Agrarias. It was adopted to the local setting and envisioned to address poverty in the community by strengthening family values, catalyzing community development through agriculture, engaging in enterprise education and investing in personal formation through the pedagogy of alternancia.
It operates the Dagatan Family Farm School in Lipa City and Balete Family Farm School in Balete, Batangas. And similar schools in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro and Dingle, Iloilo. They offer secondary education to children of families in agriculture and agri-business. They employ a special approach called "alternancia", a dual training system that is communal and family oriented in context. Students stay at home with their families, work in their farm/family enterprise (home period) for a week then attend classes (school period) for the following week taking into account observations and learning from the community and their own family.
For this episode, we talked to Mr. Renato Maranan, president of Family Farm Schools, and Ms. Ma. Karen de Chavez, school director of Balete Family Farm School.
Are you ready to find out more about this educational concept?
Unlike their armed brothers and sisters in the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine coast guards work silently and tirelessly to protect the territorial waters, patrol the coast lines and safeguard maritime vessels and travellers.
The Philippine Coast Guard is under the Department of Transportation since 1998, because of the civilian nature of its work. However, it becomes a part of the armed forces during war. It operates with 13 districts, 54 stations and some 190 sub-stations around the country.
This episode highlights the activities of the Coast Guard in recent months.
