Many people think it doesn’t matter what you believe about Genesis as long as you believe in Jesus. But it does matter, because the gospel message begins in Genesis!
God originally created a perfect world, but Adam’s sin brought death into creation. Death is the penalty for sin. That’s why Jesus had to come to earth and die physically—to take the penalty of death that we deserve upon himself.
What you believe about Genesis matters! If Adam wasn’t a real person, or if death wasn’t really the penalty for sin, then the foundation for the gospel disappears. But the history in Genesis is true, so, yes, the gospel is also true.
