For the heart of this people has been hardened, and with their ears they have been hard of hearing, and their eyes have been closed; lest at any time they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their mind, and be converted, and I heal them.” (Isaiah 6:9,10)

Anything a man takes pride in because of something he can do, or anything that he exalts as being something great, is an abomination or hateful in the sight of God. One of the great areas of pride is competitive games where individuals and/or teams are held up as idols for being "Number 1 or the Best". God says he breaks the bones of the unjust or sinners and that we should "Wash are hands in their blood", i.e., see how they were breaking God's commandments and make sure we don't do the same.

God says the tongue, i.e. spoken words, are the world of iniquity, lying, and deceit. The things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart: evil thoughts, murderers, adulteries, immorality, thefts, false witness, and blasphemy, and it is they that defile a man. He further says that we will be justified or condemned by our words.

Be careful of what you say, for wrongful words have led to the downfall of many.

If you don’t have anything good to say about a person, don’t say anything at all, for what you say will definitely get back to them.
