Game Against Depression, G.A.D, is a gaming event that aims to create an open dialogue about mental health issues. Mixing professional football players, Twitch broadcasters, professional gamers, chart topping musicians, and well known icons in the gaming world, G.A.D will show viewers that not only are they not alone in feeling the way they do, but that even their heroes are acknowledging the seriousness of mental health. As much as this will be an event geared toward mental health, it will be equal parts gaming. Viewers and attendees will enjoy watching and playing Hearthstone with their favorite players. The entirety of this event will be live streamed on Twitch.tv, but takes place live from the Esports Arena in Santa Ana.

Legendary and Blizzard cast out a Warcraft film this summer on June 10th! With director Duncan Jones and actors like Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Paula Patton, and Clancy Brown, will it be worth this long wait?!

Jeff, Kuma, and Wyldkard talk about their experiences, knowledge, and hopes for this new film franchise.

Film Synopsis:

The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another. As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people, and their home.

The film stars Dominic Cooper (Captain America: The First Avenger, AMC’s upcoming ‘Preacher’ series), Ben Foster (Lone Survivor, 3:10 to Yuma), Paula Patton (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Precious), Travis Fimmel (History Channel’s ‘Vikings’), and Clancy Brown (Everything nerdy. Seriously, you know him). The director is the very talented, Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code).

Release date for the film is June 10, 2016 and the movie is based mostly from the first Warcraft game from Blizzard Entertainment, Warcraft: Orcs and Humans. The game was released November 3, 1994 for PC/Mac.

 

Game Synopsis:

The Orcs originated from another world, Draenor, where the majority were bloodthirsty warriors driven by strife. However, their Warlocks remained aloof, devoting their time to the research of magic. The Warlocks noticed a rift between the dimensions and, after many years, opened a small portal to another world. One Warlock explored and found a region, whose Human inhabitants called it “Azeroth”, from which the Warlock returned with strange plants as evidence of his discovery.

The Orcs enlarged the portal until they could transport seven warriors, who massacred a Human village. The raiding party brought back samples of good food and fine worksmanship, and a report that the Humans were defenseless. The Orcs’ raiding parties grew larger and bolder, until they assaulted Azeroth’s principal castle. However, the Humans had been training warriors of their own, especially the mounted, heavily armed Knights. These, assisted by Human Sorcerers, gradually forced the Orcs to retreat through the portal, which the Humans had not discovered.

 

For the next fifteen years, one faction of Orcs demanded that the portal be closed. However a chief of exceptional cunning realized that the Humans, although out-numbered, had prevailed through the use of superior tactics, organization, and by magic. He united the clans, imposed discipline on their army and sought new magics from the Warlocks and Necromancers. Their combined forces were ready to overthrow the Humans.

Film Synopsis:

Political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability when the actions of the Avengers lead to collateral damage. The new status quo deeply divides members of the team. Comic Event Synopsis from ‘Civil War’ issues 1-7:

In a battle between Nitro and the New Warriors, Nitro exploded, seemingly killing the entire team and a huge number of civilians (including 60 school children nearby). This led the United States government to introduce a “Living Weapon of Mass Destruction” registry for all super-powered individuals. Most heroes were divided on the issue, and a Civil War ensued.

The Superhuman Registration Act had been a long time in the making. The logical extension of the often-proposed, never-passed Mutant Registration Act, the Superhuman Registration Act arose following the devastating attack on Manhattan in reprisal for Nick Fury’s “Secret War” and the Hulk’s destructive rampage in Las Vegas, which killed 26 adults, 2 children, and a dog (unbeknownst to the general public, the Illuminati subsequently deceived the Hulk and jettisoned him into space following this incident).

 

‘Amazing Spider-Man’ issues 529-531

Tony Stark (Iron Man) was among those working to prevent passage of the act. He even hired a new Titanium Man to attack him immediately after his testimony before the Commission on Superhuman Activities, hoping it would hammer home that the act would make the nation less capable of dealing with rogue or foreign superhuman threats. The anti-registration camp seemed to be making headway, and may have even defeated the bill by the narrowest of margins, if not for the events that took place in Stamford, Connecticut.
