Another episode, another stop on our adventure through the history books. This time, our destination is one of the most defining eras of our ancient history: The Roman Empire. Just like the Ancient Greeks before them, the Romans were pioneers in many walks of life, especially engineering and architecture, while also conquering large swathes of Europe with their advancements in military strategy. Roman historians are also acclaimed for their dedication to preserving records of key events, albeit with heavy bias towards their own accomplishments, meaning that Ancient Rome is a civilisation we have been able to learn a lot about. Regardless, there are still some mysteries that have managed to slip through the cracks, evading the historians and forming the backbone of this podcast.   

Our first theory sees Calum investigating the infamous Roman Emperor Nero. Famed for his cruel and merciless reign, did he set Rome alight so he could rebuild the city to suit his own tastes? Up next, Luke crosses Hadrian' Wall to visit Scotland, the last confirmed position of the famous 9th Legion of the Roman Army. Were British Barbarians responsible for inflicting such a crushing defeat on this, Rome's most elite fighting unit, that they were never heard from again? On the topic of warfare, John uncovers one of the more surprising advancement in military tactics to have come out of this era. How did Roman soldiers find themselves facing a possible chemical weapon attack?
