The Grim Curriculum

The "Easter Sunday Family Massacre" occurred on March 30, 1975, in Hamilton, Ohio, when James Urban Ruppert fatally shot 11 members of his family during a gathering. Among the victims were his mother, brother, sister-in-law, and eight nieces and nephews. Many who knew James were shocked by the senseless violence, unable to fathom that he could murder 11 family members in cold blood. However, there were significant tensions between James, his brother, and his mother. Unlike some cases where the reasons behind a person's actions remain unclear, James' life seemed marked by a profound sense of being unwanted, disliked, and deeply unhappy from an early age.

It's time again for another cryptid episode! This strange and unusual creature has been haunting the rural roads of Wisconsin and Michigan, more specifically, Elkhorn, Wisconsin, for the past one hundred years.

Descriptions of the creature typically depict it as an often bipedal, wolf-like or bear-like animal standing between 6 and 7 feet tall, with shaggy fur, pointed ears, and glowing eyes.

The Beast of Bray Road has become a popular subject of local folklore and has inspired numerous books, documentaries, and even films, making it a notable figure in American cryptid lore.

We will be exploring several stories of eyewitness accounts and the theories about what this critter might actually be.

We have a myriad of modern cases for you in this episode. A John Doe who was found in a Wisconsin record store chimney was recently identified. A Norwegian man who was performing "extreme body modification" procedures on paying "customers" and streaming them online has been been handed a life sentence along with 6 accomplices. A Plymouth woman had a bit of a shock back in February when she discovered WW2 unexploded ordinance in her back garden, resulting in the surrounding neighborhoods being evacuated for some time, and much more.

In December 1957, seven-year-old Maria Ridulph vanished from her Sycamore, Illinois neighborhood while playing outside, sparking one of the nation's oldest cold cases. Despite initial suspects, the trail went cold until 2011, when new evidence led to the arrest of Jack McCullough (A.K.A. John Tessier), who was convicted in 2012. Yet, in a dramatic turn, McCullough's conviction was vacated in 2016 due to overlooked evidence, and he was released. The unresolved case of Maria Ridulph remains a haunting reminder of the complexities in seeking justice for long-standing mysteries.

Murderbilia refers to items associated with notorious crimes or criminals, often collected and traded by enthusiasts. These items can include anything from letters, artwork, personal belongings, clothing, or even crime scene photos. The interest in murderbilia can stem from a fascination with true crime, a desire for macabre memorabilia, or a curiosity about the minds of criminals.

Overall, murderbilia is a complex and controversial aspect of true crime culture, prompting discussions about morality, legality, and the ethics of collecting items associated with violence and tragedy.

We were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to ask Nico, an expert in murderbilia and the proprietor of one of these websites some of your questions about this controversial topic.

Following the gruesome Tate murders in 1969, Charles Manson orchestrated yet another horrific crime spree, this time targeting Leno and Rosemary LaBianca. Manson and his followers were convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder, among other charges. Originally sentenced to death, Manson's punishment was later changed to life imprisonment after California abolished the death penalty in 1972. Despite being incarcerated, Manson retained a chilling allure, attracting followers and perpetuating his mystique. His death in 2017 marked the end of a life marked by manipulation, violence, and infamy, leaving behind a legacy of profound evil.

On August 9, 1969, actress Sharon Tate was brutally murdered, along with four others, at her home in Los Angeles by Manson Family members, Tex Watson, Susan Atkins, Patricia Krenwinkel, and Linda Kasabian. The murders were part of Manson's twisted plan to incite a race war he called "Helter Skelter" but he was not actually present at the time of the killings.
