The Grim Curriculum

Today we are taking you all back to the year 1985 to explore the true events that inspired the movie Cocaine Bear . We are going to be talking about not only what happened when a black bear managed to get its paws on a boatload of booger sugar but how exactly it all wound up in the middle of a forest to begin with.

We also answer some of our listener questions in a Q&A at the end of the story.

*Note: You may hear some meows from Earl, Dina's cat. He's in love and wants the entire world to know. He was also wondering what Dina was doing in her recording booth (read:blanket fort).

Our story this week takes us all the way to the former province of Gévaudan in France. Between 1764-1767 people in this area were terrorized by a man-eating creature we now know as The Beast of Gévaudan. It seemed to prefer attacking peasants who already lived very harsh lives and it had a preference for women and children, although it was happy to try and kill anyone that dared cross its path.
