Kristen and her husband have four children, two who were adopted and have special needs.  Cherry Blossom Vacations was started out of a desire to help other families like theirs be able to travel and vacation more often, and with less stress and more fun.

Today’s guest is 20-year-old BJ Yoho from Bloomfield, Indiana. BJ was born with spina bifida, has endured 17 surgeries, and uses a wheelchair. 

BJ has been a patient at Riley’s Hospital for Children since 2002. He decided he wanted to give back so what better way to do that then by hosting his own toy drive for 10 years to give back with charity. How awesome is that?

For 6 years BJ worked at the Bloomfield Family Life Center up until COVID hit, and right now he is focusing on being a full-time college student at Ivy Tech with hopes to earn a degree in Film. 
The most important things to him are his Faith in God and his close relationship with his family.

In this episode we had the pleasure of interviewing Jenice Watson. Jenice currently lives in Salt Lake City, Utah. She enjoys the outdoors and music. She has two wonderful boys and has been married to her husband for almost 15 years.  

Jenice and her family founded A Buddy Just Like Me to help individuals with a diagnosis, their families, and caregivers to be able to find and create meaningful connections.  You can connect through A Buddy Just Like Me in different levels. Such as for the person with the diagnosis can use FIND A BUDDY, a person with a diagnosis who has lived with the experiences and wouldn't mind mentoring newly diagnosed people can use MENTOR A BUDDY, or the caregiver to whomever is diagnosed can use CAREGIVER TO A BUDDY. They have a place for you! The website is live, and they are in the collection phase of their connections. As of spring 2022 the app is being launched and they can't wait to bring connection to your fingertips. 

A Buddy Just Like Me is a non-profit that started after a wish from their son West, who was born with cerebral palsy. During his road to and in diagnosis they realized how many emotions a diagnosis journey can bring, it's a mix bag of happy and sad and ups and downs. It's a beautifully unique experience- but can also be very lonely and isolating, and for them discovering that finding true connections was difficult due to HIPPA, limited resources to find someone living the same experiences, and getting lost in an algorithm. They knew if West needed this unique connection, so did so many others within the diagnosed community.  Their goal is to connect the services to every hospital, foundation, school, and nonprofit communities; it is important that everyone who is in the experience of a diagnosis knows they are not alone, can find connections, community, and resources in their area. They are excited to provide that service that can connect so many.

In this episode we had the pleasure of interviewing Nick DeFosset and Teresa Maguire. Nick and Teresa met at a Cerebral Palsy Support Group back in March of 2018. The very next day they met up again at a TobyMac Christian Concert. To date they have seen over 41 Christian concerts together! 

Nick says that one of the first things he noticed was that Teresa had a crappy hospital wheelchair, so he decided to rebuild her one of his ultralight wheelchairs. Four years after they met, they went through rehab together to regain their ability to walk. He shares that experience during our interview. 

They both feel they understand each other's issues, on a deeper level being they both live with Cerebral Palsy, and that has made their relationship that much stronger.

They are currently working on launching their Cooking Show on YouTube called “Cooking with the Quads”.

In this episode we had the pleasure of interviewing Dean Kelly, all the way from the UK! Dean was born in a medical negligent home birth in 1965 which resulted in Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy. His parents were told that he would not last the night and was given the last rites. Dean sued the Medical Defense Union for over 1 million pounds in a case which made British legal history. (Kelly V Bastible and others) He was out of time bringing his claim and lost the claim in the Appeal Courts.

 He has never been one to let the grass grow under his feet or rest on his laurels and become a SN British Championship Judo medalist in 2009.

After over 20 years as an accountant, he is now currently rewriting his autobiography called “NATURAL BORN FIGHTER” and embarking on a new path as a “Motivational Speaker” called “LET’S CHAT ABOUT CEREBRAL PALSY”

He is already one of the leading authorities in the UK speaking about the life as a Cerebral Palsy sufferer, he would loves to share his positive message about Cerebral Palsy.
