Hi everyone! Choosing to be happy can be a real challenge when we have so many things going on in our lives. It's less than 2 weeks until I have my mastectomy and I am feeling so happy today (I've been told I'm way too happy for someone that's about to lose a breast!) and I wanted to share some tips that you can implement today to improve your own levels of happiness. I've also included an exercise that will show you how much of an impact your thoughts have on your emotions and general mood.

I’m just about the have a mastectomy with reconstruction and I wanted to try and give you an idea of what to expect if you’re in the same boat or what to expect if you’re supporting someone with breast cancer, by talking about my journey so far. I’m Gemma, I’m 37 and this is my second time with breast cancer... same breast. Based in the UK, I’m having my operation through the NHS but I expect the info will be valuable for you, regardless of where you are in the world 😁  I’ll continue to post about my recovery too but don’t compare your journey to mine!! We are all unique.

Fear - an emotion common to many of us. But how does fear impact our decision making? How would that decision differ if we make it from a place of optimism? Michelle Obama once said "Don't ever make decisions based on fear. Make decisions based on hope and possibility. Make decisions based on what should happen, not what shouldn't.". 

In this short episode, we talk through the effect fear has on our body and how it might impact our decision making, as well as a helpful exercises that can help you evaluate if you're maximising the opportunities the Universe makes available to you. When we experience a significant change to our physical body such as disfigurement from a burn or an amputation for example, it can be difficult to really learn to love ourselves for who we are and see past the physical. Being able to embrace the 'new you' and love what you see in the mirror is essential to leading a happy life! In this episode I talk about some of the things that might help you come to terms with the changes to your body and love yourself that little bit more.

Being diagnosed with a disease or illness is devastating and it can often feel incredibly challenging coming to terms with it and can feel like a setback in your life. Regardless of our age, a life changing diagnosis or finding out you have a terminal illness can really be a cause for pause and can trigger you to reflect on your life choices. My personal cancer journey ended up with a full blown spiritual awakening. This might not be where yours goes but you might find yourself pondering past relationships, lost friendships and wondering how you can recover from what's going on in your life and make the most of your future.
