The Hard Rock Lunch Box

DJ is down to Make America Great Again... and spends most of the the BOX preaching to choir about what a massive step we just took towards that end... despite the inability of about 25-45% of the country to even realize it.

Also on today's show: why Bezos and Musk need to stop cheating the rest of us, how some 80's hair bands actually rocked, DJ's friend's talented wife, why free passes need to come after putting some skin in the game and MORE!

This ain't your mom's lunch box.

Sadly, despite paying full royalties on the BOX, the RIAA "antipiracy" department has rules against using copyrighted material without permission on the podcast replay, so you won't hear anything except direct submissions here, but you can still catch all the music from the show when the BOX runs live, Thursdays at noon on 99WNRR.com

DJ takes a walk down memory lane and finds a pretty sweet moment with plenty of lessons worth keeping in mind today.

Also on today's show: Why "The Good Fight" matters, the genius of Jerry Cantrell, recap from the wayyyy better than expected Buckcherry show, finding yourself in spaces that let you just be you and MORE!

DJ says he knows how to fix what's broken with education in this country, and he uses the recent elections in Virginia to highlight a really good place to start.

Also on today's show: why stupid, small-minded and self-righteous people have no business in education, the differences between being backstage and "frontstage", transitioning from not enough songs to too many songs, R9's big upcoming show and MORE!

Annie Stoic from Jackknife Stiletto stops by the BOX today, and it's been a hot minute since they've hung out so there's quite a bit of catching up to do... and bad behavior to discuss.

Also on today's show: what #tourlife is like post/mid-Covid, how people still manage to make things even worse than they need to be, super-creepy places to play (and film videos), what's up next for Jackknife and MORE!

DJ talks about his ridiculously ridiculous past week which was chock-full of work emergencies, basement floods and "gutter people" and through all of it he seems to recognize how much better he is at handling such nonsense.

Also on today's show: the creepiest thing at the REVEL 9 studio, how even the most questionable promos still help the band, the wordsmithing of Eminem, the actual truth - and story - behind "The Good Fight" and MORE!

DJ talks about what it was like for him and his BFF - anxiety - before, during and after his first live gig in 19 months.  Turns out, unsurprisingly, it was awful, but... he had some really good takeaways from the performance and has quite a lot to say about it.  #shocker

Also on today's show: DJ's fakes a fight with Annie Stoic and the GOAT couldn't care less, why affirmation from a stranger helped make life decisions, what is so great about a hootenanny, the decade-long journey of understanding why people "can't believe" how good REVEL 9 actually is and MORE!

DJ talks about what it takes to actually be a good band, and it's a lot more than just being able to write a good song - and that's hard enough.  The effort that it takes to write that song, perform it properly, place it in a set correctly, please the audience with it - and then, do it another 8-12 times in the same set is beyond the reach of most bands that don't understand the work involved, but don't worry - there's help!

Also on today's show: DJ's new "crazy dope" mic stand,  R9's upcoming Fall Fest and Buckcherry shows, why urgent medical situations are only urgent to you, this week's installment of "blowing off Annie Stoic", and MORE!

DJ goes professional on the BOX this week, but immediately admits that it's really only for the BOX's red-headed step child, The Top Twenty.  #daddyissues

Also on today's show: how a good looking background can really mess you up if you're the foreground, why a half windsor knot is the way to go - if you're some kind of slut, REVEL 9's first show in 3 eternities and 19 months, the truly underrated art of writing a set list and MORE!

DJ has returned and explains how to be a fulltime cereal eater - clearly still annoyed by all the DIY nonsense about how to be a "fulltime musician".

Also on today's show: why DJ's daughter isn't in public school, the upside/downside of going full "Mr. Rogers" on the BOX, strongly recommending the BIMP interview of David Caggiano, who's really to blame for making the world unbearably political these days and MORE!

No one needs advice on how to do anything "fulltime"... what they need is a way to make a living at it.  There's a difference.

Also on today's show: why R9 doesn't kickstarter (but also the ideas that were thrown around for it), what taking 3 slices of pizza says about you, the privilege of gas money and trunk space, what it feels like to really reach people and MORE!
